I entered new ISP information into my router today, and after I saved and restarted the router, it just reset the information I entered to the default Telkom Guest account info.

I reset the modem by pressing the small reset button at the back, and now I have an even bigger dilemma. I can't seem to enter the router's config pages without entering an unknown password. I tried the default (User: admin, Password: administrator), but that didn't work. I also tried my previous password, but that also didn't work.

I have unplugged it, reset it multiple times, and still no luck. Does anyone know what the problem and (more importantly) the solution is?

My defaults were user: admin and password : admin
Maybe try that...

Thank you, but no. That didn't work. I have this cold and foreboding feeling that I might either have to buy a new router or phone Telkom. I don't know which is worse.

Return the router, there was a batch that did/do what you experienced. I personally went through a lot of them until Telkom gave me a different model :)

Check the router manual, if you find the default password in there and it doesn't work, reset it again at the back, but keep the button pressed for about 30 seconds, to make sure it resets ;)

If the router asks for login details, I can almost garuntee it still works.

This router has worked for almost two years, and only now it is doing it. Will they replace it after such a long time?

I did as you said. The router manual says that the default password is administrator and the username is admin, but that still didn't work.

Thanks for all the suggestions, though. I really appreciate it.

Okay, try resetting it for longer, restart your pc after the reset and try it again ;)

The old white marconi routers were troublesome!
I still have a few clients that are using them!
They also have a problem where they do not save settings or simply reset everything back to default!

Try taking it back to Telkom. Maybe they'll swop it if you're lucky!

Yip, if this is the plain white older 4 port Marconi router, it's a total waste to even try to get it working ;) :D :p

I also had one, swapped it out last year for a Billion 5102G, which I absolutely love.

Take it to a Telscum store if it's that old version, most likely they'd give you a new router for free.

Thank you very much for all your help. It is, in fact, the white one (4 port). I don't know if I still have the box it came in, though, but I am going to try to return it.

If, by chance, I have to buy a new modem, is the D-link DSL-2500U any good?

I prefer Billion and I'm very biased so I wouldn't know if D-link is any good ;)

Yea, i laak it, installed about 5 or 6 of them, 1 on ipcop, 1 on a Netgear firewall

Cheap, but solid
