I have logged in at users.isdsl.net and hav seen that someone else has been using my account,

and not just using it but they have raped it!

they hav used my complete 3Gig Cap in 2 days...

Is there anything that I can do, It lists the time they logged on and their IP.

U wont get your bandwith back, but phone your ISP and report it so they can change your pass. After that make sure u have changed the password for your router, do not leave it as the default!!!

I have contact my ISP(openweb) and have changed password...

Can they track the person down?

I dont think so, i think it comes down to telkom not relseaing the information about who use's the port.

You need to change the default password (administrator normally) of your actual router as well as far as i know.

As a general security measure I change my passwords on my router and ADSL account every week to something so complex that I have to write it down somewhere!! it's hectic but I'm not going to take the chance in getting hacked!

And do what ???.
Unless you pay him a visit and break his kneecaps it is not worth the hassle for 3G.

Writing it down makes it even easier for someone to hack your account if they want to dude...

How on earth is someone going to get access to something that is "offline", dude?

yes someone is going to break into my home, actually LOOK for the piece of paper I wrote the info down on and then go BACK to his house and use my account. ?? - >>>> and the Darwin award for the day goes to .... AcidRazor!

hehe.

But he does have a point. I have very often gone to people's offices and their passwords are stuck to their monitors with a PostIt. Banking, email, internet you name it.

router password

jeez guys i didn't even know my router (netgear Gt 834UK) had a password. Any help on how to change it?? do i do it from my laptop??

Bwahahahahahahaha, here's your stoopid sign wear it with pride;)

damn, thats harsh. :D

Anyway, most good routers (in other words, most routers other than the Telkom (spit) router) will have a decent manual. The password section will be near the beginning.

I do not understand why nothing can be done against a bandwidth thief. All the above posts make out like it is the victim's fault and threfore its his tough luck.

Surely someone can post an intelligent response of the proper legal route to follow when this happens. It is not a stupid question that is being asked.

If someone steals my bandwidth, I will follow the correct procedure whatever that might be and however fruitless.

I got an email from SAOL warning about bandwith theft, they say that nothing can be done because telkoms policy is that they dont release information about who use's which ports(maybe they dont even know)
I supose if u realy wanted to find out u would have to get a court order forceing telkom to release the information. Basicly you have to take telkom to court, is that realy worth your while for your R100 - R600 worth of bandwith
