Johannesburg - Minerals and Energy Minister Buyelwa Sonjica on Tuesday denied advising people to go to bed early as a means of conserving electricity.

"That speech didn't say 'go to bed, go to bed, go to bed'," she said at a media briefing on the department's national response plan to the electricity crisis.

"Tony Leon (MP and former DA leader) said: 'Minister, what do you do after you go to bed?' and I said go to bed, you are stupid, you go to bed...and you will become clever'.

WTF? Maybe I should go to bed 'cause I sure as heck ain't clever enough to understand this woman's ramblings.

OMG... the ANC is thick as pig ****.

I think someone said in another thread that she'd go back on her words, and deny it... I was sitting in the car listening to the speech...

The sad thing is that women like this, Ivy, Manto and Phumzile probably do more to hinder the progression of issues like gender equality than they do to help it.

This woman clearly needs to go to be earlier.

Can't we move past a person's gender, race...........and focus on their competence ;)

That wasn't my implication, this isn't an attack on women, it's an attack on these clowns who give women with power a bad reputation. When you think of government/ministerial incompetence, which names immediately come to mind? And it's related to T-Bone's comment about wanting a woman as the next SA president - to think that he would have had to choose out of this bunch.

Sorry what I meant was lets not worry about 'gender equality' and rather worry about competance. Never meant to imply you were attacking woman ;)

But you're right about T-Bone's selections :o

"If you cannot blame it on apartheid just deny that you ever said it" - ANC Politics 101

Yeah that pretty much sums them up. At least they make an effort to blame something :D

Just saw on etv..however 'thick' that minister maybe, she did gesture on her left (towards Tony Leon) while saying those famous words..

But did she change her tone, intonation, canter , expression, stance?
Was there any indication she meant it any other way?

wow, she cant even construct a sentence, yet she implies tony leon is 'stupid'

in all fairness, english is more than likely her second language.

but then again, if she had gone to school they would have tought her how to speak the effing language i think...

:p

Jokes aside - it has nothing to do with the language - it has everything to do with the content, and the patrionising attitude she shows.
