I got my 3G/HSDPA card recently and have been playing games on the internet with quite good speed.

For the last week or so I have been having very bad ping times while playing games with my MTN 3G/HSDPA card. (Up to 11000 at times, avg of 2000)

I cheched at work on ADSL and the ping at work is acceptable 500-600.

Where can I start looking for the problem. Is it the tower, MTN in general or is it a general issue with international bandwidth?

Good day,

With 3G you can expect on average is 220 and 320 peaking at 384 on HSDPA 400 to 700 peaking at 1.8

Please also let me know if you're still having a problem

Hi MTNDD

The problem is not the SPEED of the 3G/HSDPA connection but the LAG. I can surf and download at a good speed. I have almost a full signal so that is not that much of a problem. When I am playing Guild Wars the lag is exeptionally bad.

This shows the very first node in the trace to timeout. I presume this is the tower that does not have an IP? The second node is the first MTN server after the tower I think. A ping of 250ms-270ms is rediculous to the first server. I would expect at least a sub 100ms ping. Ideally it should be sub 50ms. Sometimes the ping is almost 400ms to the first server! Could you plaese advise?

Good day,

I got some feedback from Network and here it is

Hi,

The times are normal,

The pings for the the first hop are the entire GSM network and includes the following hops "handset - tower - BSC - SGSN - GGSN - GPRS router (196.11.241.209)". The timeout on the first hop is the GRE tunnel between the GGSN and the router.
