Has anyone noticed any improvements when moving from a shaped telkom to unshaped telkom account?

EVE-O seems to be laggy as hell lately on my 3GB shaped telkom account...

Considering moving to a prepaid unshaped 1GB account from teh likes of webafrica...

Any comments anyone?
 
i saw like a minimal difference from my telkom account to my, unshaped hey.

Its like 50 ms difference..
 
Apparently unshaped SAIX lines have been a bit **** lately.

But you're supposed to get sub-200 international pings, as opposed to sub-400 ones with shaped lines.
 
I get 230 - 350 usually on WoW Europe with Unshaped.. I get 700 - 900 with Shaped
 
Interesting feedback, thanks, what ISPs are you using?

All SAIX? Was thinking of trying an MWEb account for a month to see what that is like...

Perhaps SAIX is inherantly busier and therefore contention and pings are longer
 
update, just took out a prepaid unshaped account from axxess and my ping times are now 203ms average down from 345ms average

So there is something to be said for unshaped accounts...

Lets see what game play is like now...

Please can you paste a ping to the server you are playing on. I assume you're playing on an international server, hence the +- 200ms ping.

This is the ping I get to a European Warcraft III server I play on. There have been problems with international latency since last month which don't seem to have been resolved. I doubt which SAIX ISP you use makes a difference, but I am using Web Africa.

unshaped speeds and IS uncapped seems terrible...

I'm considering buying a 1gig unshaped account for playing the Crysis Multiplayer beta. My pings to the US server is about 350ms.

Are there any other SA players that is on an unshaped account that can tell me if it would be worth getting.
 
unshaped works great for gaming, but its hecticly overpriced... R129 for 1gb account for my guild wars lolz

Try a WebAfrica unshaped - they give you the option of toggling between SAIX and Verizon bandwidth.
 
WoW US servers giving impressive amounts of lag, ping times used to average out at about 450/500 on an access unshaped (SAIX), now the average is about 750/800
WTF is going on.... somebody please fix it :)
 
I use a 1G WebAfrica unshaped account, it works great for online gaming (mostly local, but I have played GRAW on overseas servers and most of the time I dont get kicked :p, get +/- 250ms on overseas servers; 30ms on local servers)

Same here - the ability to switch between SAIX and Verizon bandwidth is a great feature.
 
How on earth do you guys playing FPS put up with 250+ pings! Ouch.. :)

Even a ping difference of 20/30 makes a huge difference on a FPS.

I'm sure there will be a Cysis server in SA and I'm pretty sure there is, or was a GRAW server here..

Failing that, buy BF2 - the sport of kings(and TKing mornons, spanish and vehicle blockers) :D

Yes there are local GRAW servers, but mostly they are empty...thats why I'm forced to play on overseas servers. But for the most I play local BF2142 with a +/- 30ms ping
