PTAWUG Die Wilgers Highsite located on the Bronberg in the middle of Pretoria East. It took us a month and five days from the first inspection of the site to the installation of the wifi kit. 17 people pitched to help lift the tower.
The tower was pulled down in 1983 (was used as a radio tower then) and we refurbished it to use as a wifi tower.
We use Eskom power - 400m cable from the bottom.
It is a 1.2km walk up the hill.
Die Wilgers Highsite links to Lynnwood Highsite, Constantia Park highsite and Silverton highsite, it covers the Die Wilgers, Equestria, Murrayfield, Faerie Glen, Garsfontein, Waterkloof areas.
Thanks a lot to everyone that helped to get this highsite from an 26 year old tower lying in the bushes to a operational PTAWUG highsite.

awesome work...from old and rusty to fully functional.

I got severe sunburn!!! But it was a rather interesting event.... That site can see past Rooiwal power station.

It will be one of the busiest wireless user group sites in the southern hemisphere. Nice work ppl !!

G8 work!

Hi Guys

From me G8 work! The highsite looks really awesome and congrats on a really important highsite, well done!

:)

Yes DW is up and running. A lot of hard work went into this site and from my part thanks goes out to all who helped.

Great work guys!

PTAWUG is setting a great example of how things should be done!
What other wug can find a location, gather donations and deploy a high site in such a short time..

great job on another Highsite, Guys its really worth connecting on this network, its awesome being connected on a network with hundreds of guys and not having to worry about bandwith etc...

That looks AMAZING,

Well done to everyone that worked there. Really makes me proud to be part of PTAWUG.

Congrats again and keep up the good work.

just sorry i live in the middle of nowhere, still trying to find a highsite to connect to, and living in a "dip" doesn't help much either.

eish I see, there in Voortrekkerhoogte in a big dip - I dont see possible line of sight to any highsites or other connected nodes - good thing to do would be to get on your roof and take pictures 360 then upload them on www.wug.za.net/gallery/ so that we can see what you can see. Otherwise if you can organise access to 1 Mil's roof or the watertower up there we can use that to relay the signal.

1mil won't allow it eh, its a military installation and it could cause "havoc" for them, although i'll be moving out here in a few months YIPEE, so i will make a plan after april though, was hoping to be able to play a few games during the holz but will try next year.

CTWUG has got some kit up on a building at 2 Mil in Cape Town...

just move to a place that has coverage :)

or organise a signal test - check the getting started page on www.ptawug.co.za to get someone with mobile test kit to come to your place and do a scan to see what's possible from there.
