Unlocking a European Vodafone E220?

I live part of the year in the US, part in South Africa - and I had a chance to buy an E220 there (US) from someone who had bought it in Denmark during a short business trip. I emailed Vodacom - asking if I could use it here - and the reply was "sure - bring it on". Now, it turns out it is locked to Vodafone and no one at Vodacom can unlock it. And I have tried everything anyone can think of. Vodacom3G tells me the company doesn't have the software to do it? Does anyone on the forum have any advice/solution? If not - does anyone have a Vodacom E220 they are ready to sell?

You can either unlock it yourself at www.kulankendi.com or there is a chap who can do it in Cape Town who advertises this service on Bidorbuy for R120. The second option requires physically sending the device to him while the first option can be done remotely over the internet.

Thanks Yotch - I have started the process to have it unlocked in CPT. Waiting for a reply
from the fellow who does it.

@bwanadave: Sorry I forgot to mention that you might even be able to get the unlock code free of charge from the original network in Denmark. Many of the operators will give you this code, usually after the hardware is a few months old. You could try to e-mail the network in Denmark to see if they are prepared to give you the code.

I've used this service and its great! Just remember not to have any software running (i.e. Dashboard) that can access the modem while unlocking.
