Hey all. This is my first post here, I finally got ADSL in the past week.

Now. I have acquired myself a brand new Netgear DG834G v4. It runs firmware V5.01.01.
It seems like I cannot have the PPPoE Relay feature on this device. Now From another thread, I've figured that those with the DG834Gv3 can have it with a older firmware version.
I contacted Netgear and I got this reply "I sincerely apologize to inform you that you will be not able to configure the router to enable PPPoE Relay."
What is up with this? Did they essentially break this feature in the v4? I am kinda bummed about this. I now have to run this thing in Modem mode (is this what they call Bridged mode?)
Good day to all.

Why don't you return it and get another modem?

I have yor same Netgear DG834G v4.I can give u some informations hopening that will be usefull the first different fron v1,v2 and v3 that on v4 u can not change the antenna wireless, the second diferent is the cipset the Netgear DG834g v.4 have the chipset Broadcom as the Netgear DG834GT so as u can understand is mutch bettar for your ADSL2/2+ connection.
With your router u can adjust the noise of your ADSL phone line by telent but before that u neade to active the deburg mode just with this link:
http://192.168.0.1/setup.cgi?todo=debug
that is a setting that all DG834GT can do the only different is (and that is important i hope that somewere i can finde an unofficial firmware for my router) that,if u restart your router you will louse the setgs of snr so u neade to do again the activation of the deburg and give the telnet cmd.
At least if u are not interested in router mode and u have widows xp (i think olso windows Vista) u can set a pppoe dialup then u neade to go to this link:
http://192.168.0.1/setup.cgi?next_file=mode.htm&todo=cfg_init
u will enter your router and...will be displayed a new page were u can set the option mode-router.
That is all for now,I have this router just a few weeks and still seracheing more tips .
Take care!
Helen

I'm not sure how this will help his PPPoE Relay problems, but anyway...

Thank you for the replies. I'm running the thing in Modem only mode now. I'm not sure if I can return it though since its not broken, merely crippled. I bought it directly from a distributor and I understand they don't accept returns after 2 days.
I hope TelkomInternet allows concurrent connections from the same location.

Got the DG834G v4 to use it with my own firewall & was quite upset with the "Enable PPPOe Relay" problem.

Go to your routers main web config page & at the end of the URL change the "start.htm" to "mode.htm" or go to http://192.168.0.1/setup.cgi?next_file=mode.htm

This will give you the ability to choose the mode you want to use the router in. Process is fully reversible.

You can set it to allow PPPoE session from the router itself and from pc's on the network. Problem is if you set it to modem mode you loose all routing features like DHCP etc.

turn debug mode on like stated in previous posts, then telnet into your router and paste this :

brctl addif br0 nas0

hit enter.. and exit, ull see that you can pppoe sessions now from a pc while its in modem+router mode.

Only problem is if you restart the router you have to enter that entry again, if anyone knows how to write this to the memory please let us know.

hi.
i speak some of english and a can't understand all you wrote.
i have the same problem.
i bought dg834gt V1.03.87 and "lamp on internet" isn't working. while i was reading this posts i realised that it's becouse of PPPoA. i tried all that you wrote (mode, links etc....).
is it possible that the problem is becouse i set ip of router 192.168.1.3?
don't think that i didn't changed it in your links. :-)
can you explain me step by step???
