Just signed up to do my CCNA exam end of March...

Any idea of what I should expect. I will be doing self study while working etc. Any idea or junior salary for CCNA if I don't have any prior experience with cisco etc?

Don't really know where to look for an indication of salary. Anyhow, any help/ideas appreciated.

Thanks
J

Don't count your chickens before they're hatched.

Focus on the exam, it is really tough. IIRC the pass rate is 80% and they're very strict about that.

Once you've passed the examinations successfully, then you may dream of a new job.

And good luck.

Cool Cool,

Its not as bad as the CCIE (I think) that has a less than 5% first time pass rate with an 80% failure rate :P Now that ****s daunting...

Not hunting for a new job, I like the one I have now - I'm just looking to expand my horizons and would just like some more info.

Peace

J

Using Mgcraw and Que publications and I think I have a Sybex book too. Don't have any physical access to Cisco equipment so I guess I am going to have to use simulators. I'm in CPT

I've also got a bit of motivation. Big brother has told me - pass I pay, fail you pay. So I've got some incentive to pass :P

Nothing is as bad as the CCIe except for the RHCE exam from what i have heard....CCNA is fine, study hard, KNOW ur simulations, it is very practical knowledge based, doing a xerox on the textbook wont help,

Ppl seem to think that getting a CCNA means big cash in a job, TBH it means jack.....ur not going to be trusted to do anything on any cisco applicance. All it might get you is a foot in the door where u can shadow an engineer and hopefulyl learn from him in a year..... Ppl doing cisco just to make money are not going to cut it....

Avoid brain dumps, the exams are forensic analysed after u are done, even if you pass its provisional until the analysis is done. If you braindump they will likely bust you, nothing screams cheat like nailing all ur multiple choice in seconds and then falling apart in simulations... Besides brain dumping makes the qualification worthless, ppl claiming i got 97% for my ccna because they are xerox machines, i hope the forensic analysis works and they ban anyone using brain dumps from writing.

Nice post. I'm not doing it for the money. I want to gain knowledge. Just interested in any info pertaining to the future etc. I can agree with the xerox people causing damage. A cert really doesnt mean you know anything. I've got the Boson Netsim for CCNP (which covers all I need for CCNA etc) as I don't have access to physical hardware. I am using that alongside the following books:

McGraw.Hill.Cisco.Certified.Network.Associate.Study.Guide.Exam.640-802.Apr.2008
Que.CCNA.Exam.Prep.Exam.640-802.2nd.Edition.Dec.2007.pdf

I am not even going to consider looking at brain dumps till I have read the full books and feel comfortable. I don't want to learn parrot fashion - I need to understand what I learn...

Thanks

Use dynamips/GNS3.

Uses real cisco IOS images/sftware. Really good for messing aroudn with. Boson is also quite good, i used it for my ccna.

What's wrong if he wants to do it for the money? That's his choice. Who are we play judge and act all "moral" on his choices. If you want the money, go for it. Most people hate their jobs but need it cos they need money, so how is this any different?

The exam is not that bad at all. Take your time studying. Get your hands on as many books and whitepapers as you can. I also strongly recommend you get some practical experience using the routers with commands etc. In fact you will probably fail if you don't. Even if its via a router simulation software - you need to know the commands and troubleshooting steps.

I wouldn't even bother with braindumps - some of them might only confuse you with all their incorrect answers. The sybex and other books are all you need.

I did not have any kind of "moral" anything in my post. I merely stated ppl trying to do it because they heard its where the money is and dotn actualyl have an interest/enjoy it dont cut it... and thinking a CCNA is gonna be the ticket to a fortune is not the reality.

Okay cool, just saying.

Cool Cool, I reckon im good in terms of study material then.

3x Study guides
1x Boson Simulator
1x Google and multiple test exams / brain dumps (although this is to be done after everything to assess my knowledge).

Should be good providing I study. Do you think 2 months is enough considering I hold a 8-5 job? I can always push it back if needed. How long did it take you guys to complete your studies for CCNA and pass exam?

Thanks and Regards,
J

U should be fine, browse an old exam first, u can get an idea of what type of stuff they ask, and will give u an idea how to study....
depends how much work u do after hours i guess....2 months should be ample though...
