Pretoria - The Tshwane metro council will in future refuse to do small business transactions with white businesses.

The council's internal purchase division received this order last week.

Kiba Kekana, the council's municipal manager, last month approved a report determining that no white businesses may in future be considered when the council purchased goods for less than R30 000. The same applied to tenders.

Right. White people are no longer employed by big business, so they start their own businesses. Now the ANC decides not to employ these businesses. How did these businesses benefit from apartheid?

It is clear that the ANC is determined to instigate reverse apartheid.

Lol, does the FF+ have shares in News24? They run The Beeld don't they?

According to the report, only small and medium-sized businesses "exclusively in the possession of black people" which were on the council's data basis would be considered.

Isn't that the same as not doing business with white-only businesses (no EE).

And this shocks you why? Its par for the course. Its only been 13 years, trust me the ANC is still going to come up with some more and more precious rulings

What's up with reverse Apartheid and reverse racism

Reverse –adjective 1. opposite or contrary in position, direction, order, or character: an impression reverse to what was intended; in reverse sequence.

So what you mean when you say these things is what they are doing is the opposite or contrary to the character of racism and Apartheid when you actually mean the 'opposite' of what you are actually saying:D

Please stop. Sorry if I'm being harsh but I find it very frustrating:(

I suppose it angers me, since it is further evidence that the ANC is not interested in addressing the wrongs of apartheid, but furthering a racist agenda against whites.

Moves like the prevent white people from operating any kind of business, in other words forcing them to eventually leave the country.

It is also an acknowledgement from blacks that they cannot compete on an equal footing. EE/AA serves to give the same message that apartheid gave ie. That blacks are inferior to whites.

If two small businesses were started equally post 1994, one black and one white, it should be clear that neither benefited from apartheid. As it stands, the black business already has an advantage since the public sector is now largely black (this argument, in reverse, is used extensively as a reason for AA). Now to say that the white business is not allowed to contract to government, seems to imply that the black business is not able to compete against the white business on an equal footing, hence the rule. But AA is truly about equality

Should I be surprised? No
Should I be saddened and angered? Perhaps, since I really love this country and would love to see it work.

Alanf85, doesn't this bother you in the least?

Say that small business was started by somebody too young to vote in Apartheid or even in 1994, would you consider this fair?

Sorry, Alan, point taken wrt to 'reverse racism'.
I do know that racism does apply both ways, but have been living in this country too long and have been indoctrinated.

Wrt reverse apartheid: Apartheid, is not a generic term. It was by definition white rule over blacks in South Africa, with the aim of disempowering blacks. Reverse apartheid, could therefore logically be referred to as: Black rule over whites in South Africa, with the aim of disempowering whites. Either way, in this case, it is a trivial argument.

I will refrain from using reverse racism, however, will continue to use reverse apartheid.

Peace?

I like to brighten up my posts. Not my fault you are drab and I'm sorry if it offends you :p (oops sorry)

Sorry for any misunderstanding but I agree wholeheartedly with the post. Hence why I get frustrated with the the word "reverse" Apartheid and 'reverse" racism. It's not "reverse" ( ie opposite or contrary ) it is racism or it is an Apartheid like policy.

Or maybe I'm confused and need more sleep :o

Ah yes you make a good point about Apartheid. I apologise for that.

Racism is racism regardless of the colour of the perpetrator’s skin colour as you rightly point out.

No problem. :)

Welcome to my world folks :D

I work for a company that is still majority white owned and this is something we deal with in every sector! In fact Goverment is late in following the corporate worlds example.

To meet their BEE supplier spend targets they have made decisions like this where small relatively meaningless bussiness go to black owned businesses. If you think about it what is 30k a couple of laptops 5 at the most? Trust me white businesses that deal with Tshwane are still coining it. And I speak from PERSONAL experiance, that IT department of theirs is still largely Afrikaners and it is damn near impossible for Black people to build a realtionship with them to be able to deliver or products and services. The companies that they have historically dealed with have done enough to meet minimum BEE requirments and thus the business carries on going to their buddies.

This is Africa! If you dont like Africa rules, then there is the Passport control office ... no-one in it tho, they are on strike for better bribes.

you get Extra points on an Australian immigration application for being able to read/write/speak english.. Hmm... Canada looks good today... lets see what on the Euro front too.... IT skills are wanted there :D

Maybe their business is going to the supplier who they have a long-standing relationship with and who has provided them with the best service consistently. That's what real business is all about the world over. You'll find that most rational people don't actually give a toss what color your skin is as long as you provide good business value.

I often farm out data analysis work, and it always goes to the same group of guys I've dealt with for the last 5 years or so. I'm white, they're black... I wouldn't move the business for the world ... because these guys deliver

My experience with a BEE company had been this:
Get quote for disks. It's 4x the price than another supplier, but we have to use them because of BEE brownie points. Delivery time is 4-6 weeks. The other supplier is same day.

Efficient yes?

I interpret that as -

Maybe their business is going to the supplier who they have a long-standing relationship with and who has provided them with the best financial kickbacks.

IIRC, the PFMA warns against awarding business to the same guys over and over again. There is supposed a rotational spend policy in place with public funds.

So when Comparex, a.k.a BCX, is still getting the business all this time it just pisses me off. We could could come cheaper than them and these twats go back to them and say "sharpen your pencils" and then they celebrate at the rugby at the weekend.

It makes me

Could very well be, however I was responding to @sox's claim that no black suppliers could get a break because they were black and most of the IT department were white afrikaaners who only gave business to their buddies
