Then read what The Register have to say about the Vista EULA.

It is far more restricting than the current XP EULA.

Best do your homework first - as you're not allowed to run Vista Home and Vista Premium on virtual machines either...

And playback of DRM content in a virtual PC is not allowed either - it is strictly verboten... as well as DRM'ed documents...

Lovely... :D

Ja, but I bet it wont affect me once. I rip all my MP3's, never get DRM'ed stuff.

Virtual machines arent a problem for me, but how would they check that anyway, its mostly for companies i would think.

So how else is this going to make me not want to upgrade?

Just read the whole thing.. not all that bad, I mean I just wouldnt notice anything. But I can see how it will affect some people, it sucks that its M$ but its not that bad really..

The EULA isn't as bad as people make it out to be. It's actually VERY similar to XPs EULA.

So yep, i'm still gonna buy Vista.

Me too! I've had XP since it got released (2001) and it's time for something new now...

Also, Vista has tons of awesome features - you just can't compare it to XP.

I actually cant wait, ive been living with XP's outdated look for too long.. and MP11 MSN8 etc look cool, cant wait for the whole OS.

well you missed alot china

xp is miles ahead of windows 2000

its like chalk and chesse

just like vista vs xp

plz i will get the premiun vista for free :)

i wont pay anything more than maybe 800 or 900 for vista

otherwise there will be a new pirate in town

Yeah me too. Don't see how it's different from the XP one at least as far as I'm concerned. ;)

I gave XP a miss, still working on 2K Pro. Didn't feel like I missed anything.

You're only missing the irritation. If you want something new, get a Mac, it Rocks!

I have the MS action pack so I'll get 10 licenses of every vista version, whether I want it or not.

I'm still sceptic about Vista, I think it will be riddled with problems. We'll have to wait and see.

Don't know whether it's mentioned in that article or not (capped internationally), but one change that will piss of a lot of people, is the new limitation on how many times you can transfer your copy of windows from one computer to another. In the new EULA you're only allowed to move and re-activate your copy of windows ONCE!

This only counts for retail copies, since OEM copies are and always have been bound to one PC and one PC only.

But what defines a new PC. :o
I know you can change hardware like GFX card/ ram/ soundcard add hard drives etc... as many times as you want, but you can only change motherboard and hard drives 10 times. After which it will be at MS discretion if you can re-activate or not.

AFAIK with the new EULA the parts that define a PC is the Hard drive and motherboard. I really don't know whether they'll only concider it a new PC or not when you change those two components at the same time, or how it's going to work.

There's quite a good article about this on winsupersite.com (would give you a direct link if I had international :o)

Gotta say the EULA isn't likely to stop me buying something.

More of the same, different wording.

Hell, I'm tired of XP, I think the Aero interface of Vista looks fantastic.

Think I'll get Vista Premium...

Well I was never planning on buying it anyway, there is no way I can afford R1500 or something.. and I will only get the Premium Extreme super whatever verison...

Yes, the Premium version is what you want. Apparently with the Premium version you'll be able to use your DVD-writer & DVD-Rom drives. With the basic versions it's disabled and you only have access to one hard drive.

I kid you not - seriass!

What a mess!
They decide how many hard drives you can use? That has to be a joke!
Premium version? lol....
Activation? lol
wow.
Next thing you will only be able to type with one hand on the keyboard or your copy will be disactivated!
L I N U X (sorry, not trying to piss anyone off)

No I think the amount of drives is only on the Basic starter version which costs almost nothing and is only for sale with PC's.. you can actually buy that one.

Unless the normal home verisons do that too??

but I doubt that..

I think this whole thing is just a way to work up potential customers, everything from Antivirus company issues to EULA to limiting, it's all a bunch of nonsense.

I'll get Vista, I haven't tested any release yet, so I can't say if it rocks or not, but win98 to XP was a dream in itself, it took almost 6 years give or take to make Vista, ultimately I think it will be worth it ;)
