My hardware setup:
Asrock 939DUAL-VSTA mobo
amd athlon 3200+
7600gt AGP card
500w power supply
OS setup:
Newish XP Pro SP2 dual booted with
Gentoo Linux kernel 2.6.21-r4
Up till the weekend my E220 usb 3G modem was working 100% in both win and lin. (Using wvdial.conf similiar to tuxtazz's)
What led to my E220 not working as best as I can recall.
My PATA IDE dvd writer was acting up, so I decided to replace it with a newly bought SATA dvd writer.
Enabled all the relevant sata and sataII stuff in the bios.
Then when I wanted to download the mobo sata drivers (for win) I discovered my E220 was acting up. Eventually downloaded the sata drivers at work and got the dvd writer up and running.
E220 still acting up.
E220 symptoms:
In win the following happens, plug the modem in (any of the two cables produce the same result) the modem starts being detected, fake cdrom appears, green flashing light changes to dark blue flashing light. When VMC_PBStarter.exe executes it fails, an error dialog pops up claiming VMC_PBStarter.exe failed to execute, parallel with this the fake cdrom mass storage drive dissapears with an error sound from win and the light on the modem flashes green again.
To me it appears that the modem resets or disconnects while VMC_PBStarter.exe executes causing the problem.
I have disabled all my sata stuff in the bios unplugged the sata dvd writer etc... problem remains.
I've tested the modem on other win boxes modem works 100% on other boxes, upgraded the firmware the problem remains.
In linux: (I know there is a lin sub forum but I don't want to start a duplicate thread).
Problem started at the same time as in win. Wvdial would work, modem would connect, flashing dark blue light changes to solid. Modem works for approximately 30 seconds then the modem stops receiving or sending data, wvdial just stops responging, unplugging and replugging the modem doesn't help, crashed wvdial still hogs /dev/ttyUSB0. Blue light stays solid. Sigkilling wvdial doesn't work, have to reboot.
After the firmware update and removing the sata stuff the modem still doesn't work but has different symptoms in lin, after the chap authentication completes the modem hangs up: pppd error 16. Wvdial tries to reconnect but the modem keeps on hanging up.
PS I use huwaeiAtkbo with a udev rule to get the modem in modem mode.
Due to the fact that the modem works 100% on other pc's its not the modem, both my win and lin have some symptoms of resetting or stopping the modem.
Is it possible that I have some bios setting that is causing this, acpi or something!?!
The usb ports work fine with normal flash disks coping lots of info etc.. I've tried all six on my box in different combinations etc.. with the modem!
Anyone have any ideas or tips?
Thanx
