Honestly, I'm not some evangelist or MS hater (well perhaps a bit of the latter), but I'm sitting here nursing a hangover and pure, pure BS articles like this make me wanna hurl.
It is a press release / ad, it sure as hell has not been researched, because the slightest effort in background research would debunk the entire article.
Yes, OOXML is here to stay, in the same way a tumor tends to stick around until forcibly removed, it is NOT in the final stages of ISO acceptance, ISO already picked the true open format ODF. OOXML is also ANYTHING BUT open ffs.
Wtf is this? "in the final stages of ISO acceptance"... If I can recall correctly, most countries are AGAINST adopting OOXML as the ISO standard.
Computing SA have always had the reputation of being MS fanboys. Had a chat with their hardware guy when Ubuntu 7.10 was released. He said he wasn't even going to try it 'cause it'll just break.
"Its strong focus on Microsoft technologies in turn affords 3fifteen a great deal of loyalty and support from Microsoft as a ‘managed partner’ in all of the projects it embarks on. "
Need one say more ?
However, it is not correct to say that the countries in the ISO were against adopting OOXML as a standard; what was rejected was the attempt to fast-track acceptance and bypass the normal scrutiny process. It is now going through the scrutiny and comment period, and will be coming up for a vote on acceptance in due course. The article is not completely off the track on that.
