My windows partition keeps throwing BSODS at me when using arb apps like firefox / skype - any idea where I can find a log to find out why this is the case - BSOD is so quick i cant read anything - this hardware all works 100% on my ubuntu partition so I cant really say its a hardware issue....

Really sucks - if it keeps happening I will be 100% linux...

Right Click "My Computer -> Advanced Tab -> Startup & Recovery (Settings) -> Untick "Automatically restart"

BSOD stays till you restart.

Right so I found out the following - the BSOD is related to onboard sound thats causing my system to hang - updating drivers from R1.72 to R1.88 - realtek HD audio drivers and directx to 10 to see what happens. Mboard is Gbyte P35-DS3L.

Will see how that works out.

Thanks

Does anyone use the Gbyte P35-DS3L with onboard sound without an issue if so what OS is it - this works fine in linux but realtek driver for xp keeps crashing machine - have updated it - next I will try bios - in the meantime here is my email to gigabyte - im highly dissapointed and here i opted not to go Asus.

Question : Have the Gbyte P35-DS3L and the onboard hd audio sound drivers from realtek perminently crash windows xp with blue screens of death - error codes below - im really dissapointed and am almost at the point where I shell out for a sound card and move over to an Asus board - never had issues with Gigabyte before and now I am really dissapointed - cannot run xp at all because it keeps crashing due to sound related issues.

Thanks
Jerome

have u reloaded xp with the latest updated drivers?

it could xp to blame and not your mobo

i always reinstall my OS when i buy a new mobo

This is a new xp install , have tried 3 diff ones - happens on all - have tried updated sound drivers etc it doesnt like the onboard audio at all and its a common problem according to google - the best fix ive found disable onboard and buy a soundcard - am i happy with that - no.

Found this in Gbyte's FAQ. Had a similar problem with XPx64 and the MS Bus driver:

"Q:2538 Why does the onboard HD audio driver not install successfully ?
A:2538 Please install the audio driver again by following procedure.

1. Please make sure your Windows XP have included service pack 1 or service pack 2. Please right-click the “My computer” icon on desktop. Select “Properties\ General. (Please refer to picture 1 as below) If your system does not include service pack, please update from Microsoft official website. Please connect to internet and launch the “Internet Explorer”, click the “Tools” on the tool bar and select the “Windows Update”.

2. Please make sure if the “Microsoft UAA Bus Driver for High Definition Audio” exist in “Device manager\ System devices”. Please right-click the “My computer” icon on desktop. Select “Properties\ Hardware\ Device Manager. (Please refer to picture 2 as below). If the “UAA Bus Driver” does not exist, please install it from driver CD/ DVD. Please launch “My Computer”, open CD/ DVD drive\ Audio\ MSHDQFE\ Win2K_XP\ US”, to execute kb888111xpsp1.exe (for SP1 system) or kb888111xpsp2.exe (for SP2 system).

3. If the “Microsoft UAA Bus Driver for High Definition Audio” is work properly, there may be an “Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus” behind “Sound, video and game controllers” or an “Unknown device” behind “Other devices”. Please disable this device. (Please refer to picture 3 as below). You can skip this step if device mentioned earlier does not exist in “Device Manager”.

4. Please disable the “Microsoft UAA Bus Driver for High Definition Audio” as well. (Please refer to picture 4 as below)

5. After that, please uninstall the “Microsoft UAA Bus Driver for High Definition Audio”. (Please refer to picture 5 as below)

6. When finish the above steps, please click the “Scan for hardware changes” button. (Please refer to picture 6 as below) When the “Found new hardware wizard” display, please do not click the “Next” button. Please click the “Cancel” button at this point.

7. You can now install the audio driver from driver CD/ DVD or from the driver file that you have downloaded from Gigabyte website. (Please refer to picture 7 as below; the path in driver CD is \Audio \Realtek \Setup.exe) "

Off this link, click "got a problem"(bottom right), there's a pop-up, find your board, choose all FAQ's. It's in there.

Hope this helps

Thanks stealth buddy thats the best reply ive seen so far other than remove onboard and use a seperate soundcard - will keep ya updated.

Thanks

Use that board with both xp 32 and 64 no probs so far.

According to google it is an issue, maybe I dont have the latest fixes etc or some such - trying 64 bit xp , then vista if that doesnt work - i highly doubt its hardware as both ubuntu/pclinux had no issue with the onboard sound and xp blue screens that ive googled are realtek issues.

J

As per me for me it is not an issue :)

google is not polling me on this one, i think human error may be the cause, had issues with my p5k yesterday (realtek) and it was my fault so i sorted it and did not just follow google :p

havox I dont seem to see a dl link for that hotfix - only something on emailing msoft..... ?

Thanks
