I recently bought a Huawei E272, Vodafone Brand.

1) It does work on Vodacom and MTN.

2) It's very fast, according to Speedtests I've seen of other HSDPA users.

I bought two SIMS, Vodacom and MTN. Loaded 2GB on both.

My Vodacom CAP (2GB) was gone in like 4 days. Freaken Fast. I thought it sucked cause it was so fast, just wanted it to go slower, I couldnt keep Up! LOL!

Now I'm trying the MTN SIM...and...
I CAN'T TAKE THESE USELESS SPEEDS!:mad::mad:

I will never buy MTN Bundles for this SIM EVER again!
The MTN SIM belongs in the Dustbin.

MTN keeps disconnecting also, but I think it might be the Mobile Partner Software, or something to do with SvcHost in Task Manager.

Vodacom - I LOVE You! Youre speed was WAAAAY Too fast for me, making me chow my CAP in dayz, but I miss it now, and can't wait for this MTN bundle to be depleted, so I can keep buying Voda Bundles.
(It may take a few weeks though.....)

The guy Working at Vodashop, East Rand Mall - You where right to ask me "Why on earth would you wanna use MTN?!?) I Apologise!
And u were right, The E272 u sold me does work with MTN.

V3G, Sorry If I bashed at Vodacom cause my MTN SIM didn't wanna work with my Vodafone Modem in the start. I don't even care now that it works, cause MTN is useless!:D hahahahah!

:p VODACOM YOU RULE GUYS, NICE WORK, KEEP IT UP! :p

*The Reason I posted this thread is to tell people about vodacoms excellent speeds (well, in my area atleast)
I used to think MTN was faster, with friends telling me MTN has 7.2 Towers (hehehe...whateva)

MTN is so friggen slow, it's the reason i'm venting my anger, by starting this post.

So, for everybody complaining about MTN, and have the idea its the fastest, Buy a freaken Vodacom SIM for 99c and load like R29 on it. surf, download and do a speed test or two on www.speedtest.net and decide for yourself.

I hope this will help alot of ppl, and convert more guys to vodacom, so the bundles can get cheaper/they can build more and better towers or whatever.

PS: U guys can say what you want about MTN's supposed 7.2 Towers, and whatever, I know I'm Right!

PS2: Why do you think MTN doesn't reveal the location of their 7.2 tower(s) - it's cause they DONT exist, and they create Hype, and Rumours to try and get more customers. They cought me, as I only bought the Vodacom SIM AFTER the MTN one didnt work.

At least he was decent enough to take the time and effort to create a whole post to correct his original emotional post with facts based off of his personal experience.

I wish even 1% of the customers I help would do this and send it to my manager ;)

It all depends on your location. In some locations, VC rules in other MTN rules.

Grab an download manager (e.g. Free Download Manager). Set the connection to auto-redial (Not the funny software that came with it. Windows connection.). Then queue up some stuff to download. Go do something else for a day while the MTN cap gets smoked.

you so right people that admit they were wrong is a good step ..i wish everyone was as truthfull as you

Don't forget us country cousins...

Yes of course it depends where you are. 3G and the new HSDPA on steroids are great for urban users, but those of us out in the stix are often forgotten in these debates.

For many such country cousins MTN really is the way to go -- simply because it appears to have far greater EDGE coverage (supposedly double the GPRS speed) than Vodacom. 3G remains an impossible dream for us, so it's a toss-up between painful GPRS or barely acceptable EDGE. And MTN's EDGE map looks heaps better, certainly from where I'm sitting.

That apart, I for one seem to experience far more network congestion from Voda than MTN. That could be just a local phenomenon though?

Yup, most likely. Unfortunately there is not always enough backhaul to go around.

Remember to log any problems with 155 or [email protected].

The more logs from an area, the higher it'll get up in the to-do list... ;)

ITs all good to say 3G/HSDPA is great. The war between Voda and MTN will go on and on until someone lowers their price

For the South African who cant go spend R300 for data either they get telkom or for the wise they take up Virgin Mobile ( who do push a-something at times with speed where ever that is) but I do miss my 3G/HSDPA at times waiting for NEOTEL to come around soon!
