Cell C makes right call

When Virgin Mobile entered the local market, there were high hopes that Cell C, the country's smallest network operator, which had been operating at a loss since its launch 2001, would be out of the red in a flash. But two years on, it's still not clear what Virgin Mobile South Africa is contributing to Cell C.

All they have to do is to ditch the "voice" they use in their ads!

Their campaign was effective to attrack low income groups but it definately would not work for the market they were targeting.

Well, concerning the Virgin venture.. I applied for a contract with V-Mobile. I already had a credit card from them, and was happy with it. I applied for the contract, and it was approved the same day. They did however told me that they are waiting on stock for the phone I chose( which was one of the phones they had on their special, so it was nothing funny). After waiting for two weeks or more and visiting and phoning the shop a number of times, I gave up and told them to call it quits. I had sympathy for the sales guy, as it was apparent that he lost several customers. Whats the point in having targets, if you can not supply the goods? After this, I e-mailed Virgin to tell me about my disappointment. I believe in sometimes supporting the small guy. More competition is good for all of us. This was in January, and I did not even get a reply.
