‘Bandwidth bottlenecks will be broken’

2-3 years.... who knows what gonna happen in that period of time?
surely it will be more people using boardband in 2-3years time...
so we will be back into the same old problem again..

I know you guys have a job to do and you have to keep putting fresh articles out there, but all I know is two years ago I had a 30Gb cap for R600.00 a month, and now I have a ten Gb cap for R500 a month. My speed has increased from 512 to 4 Mbps so that is good... but not much else has changed. At this rate in 3 years time I might have a 20Gb cap and maybe an 8 Mbps connection. Not really much to look forward to in my opinion.

Can we cut down on the "things are going to get better" articles... until things ACTUALLY do get better? :(
 
The topic of the article is misleading. They don't even mention plans of breaking Telkom.

Finally...a realistic statement that dispels the myth that competition will bring down prices. It hasn't happened with Neotel and it certainly won't when Vodacom and MTN finish laying their fibre. And why should they lower prices - look at interconnection rates - when they can all cosy up to each other knowing ICASA and the competition commission will do FA. That's what big corporates DO in SA...screw the customer with the excuse that we are a 'developing economy' and somehow this makes investments more expensive than those in the rest of the world (even though labour costs and corporate taxes for example are lot cheaper here).
 
in 2 to 3 years (5to10 or 3to9) nothing much would have changed in telkom is around
 
I hate these gatherings. People stand up and paint this absolutely euphoric picture of our wonderfull telecoms future. All good and well, but how bout delivering on those wonderfull promises. Case in point, NeoTel - competition is here now, but I'm still waiting for the consumer benifit everyone was profising about.

I just want allot of cheap bandwidth :D
I'm happy that prices have come down so much in the line rental, but
the bandwidth prices is sick.. Just a few years ago local was uncapped...
R359pm for 4mb line is cheap.. R2k for uncapped is a bit much...
 
Yup, I agree with the folks that see the disparity between the cap and the speed.
 
look. in 2-3 years time, the populations will only be about 30 mill as the murder rate is climbing faster than zims inflation rate and also people are bailing this sinking ship in their thousands. so since we will have 2 thirds of the population, of course there will be more bandwidth available.
