South Africa to open borders by 2010

South Africa is set to throw open its borders to its poorer neighbours under plans to introduce visa-free travel across southern Africa in time for the soccer World Cup in 2010.

The move would see nationals from the 14 members of the Southern Africa Development Community – including Zimbabwe, Angola and the Democratic Republic of Congo as well as the relatively prosperous South Africa – allowed to move across the bloc’s internal borders on a passport alone.

Francis Mfune, executive director of the Regional Tourism Organisation of Southern Africa, SADC’s tourism arm, said talks were “quite advanced”. “They have in principle said yes,” he said, although there was still friction over some particularly sensitive borders.

There are fears that relaxing migration controls would precipitate an influx of economic migrants to South Africa, the bloc’s wealthiest member. Gross domestic product per head in South Africa is $3,827 a year, compared with $103 in Congo, according to International Monetary Fund data

Can you spell xeon... xecno.. xenophobia. it would seem that NOBODY is learning ANYTHING from whats going on in the country right now...

BTW....Does anyone know of a good immigration consultant.. I'm a lawyer looking to move to somewhere like the UK, Australia, Kazakstan.. I plan to move there by the end of december 2009 or somewhere around there...

How the f@ck does this idiot propose to get all the people back home again. Seriously, are idiots in charge of this country?

Shame dude!
You do know that your qualifications are null and void overseas right? I mean you'll probably qualify as someone with a degree but you'll have to get a new degree particular to the new countries laws. And you'll have to register and qualify with their legal bodies as well.
I know this is to be the case with Canada.

Its not even just for the 2010 world cup, it'll carry on indefinitely after that. And haven't you realised the answer to your question yet?

thats one of the major difficulties with me moving o/seas.. but if you can find a position in corporate environment then its usually not a problem. I also have the right kind of experience to make that kind of move.. but this IS a problem wiht lawyers.. My brother is in IT and I have friends who are doctors.. those fkukers just pack up and bugger off and go n work anywhere in the world... my adivce to anyone studying now is to study something that can get you job some place outside SA...

But there are other obstacles...
