Anyone know if this can be done with a small tuner between the aerial and the 15 pin dsub connector on my PC LCD?

For that you'll need a RF modulator, the unit Zakspeed sells is good value for money at R148. RF modulators take RCA input and provide RF output, the disadvantage of going this route is that the RF feed will introduce a graininess to your picture quality. Can one connect a Graphics Card to the tv aerial... I want to view my pc on my tv but its a very old tv, so has no additional inputs except the aerial input, so no hdtv support.
Its a nVidia Geforce 8500 GT
Are there connectors?
Been looking for a similiar solution over the past few weeks. Mainly to feed the RF in the study to one of the LCD monitors, but also to use as input (passthru) for my VCR to my PC (Have about 60 VHS videos I need to convert). Doesn't look like the standalone ones can do this last part ?What you are looking for is a device known as an "LCD TV Box".
You can pick up the Mecer LT300 for R328 or the Compro VideoMate V300 or V600 which support HDTV input and output![]()
I assume you are referring to the output connectors from the graphics card. If that's the case then it's unlikely to have a scart connector, most graphics cards have an adapter cable which provides s-video and/or composite connectors and sometimes component (red, blue and green connectors). If the graphics card adapter doesn't have the yellow RCA connector, you can get a cable to convert the s-video connector to RCA which you can then plug into the RF modulator. It has a scart output and a 4 pin connection
The standalones don't provide input to the PC. You could however achieve what you are after by simply getting a TV tuner which you'd be able to connect both the RF feed as well as the VCR's RCA connectors to. The PC would then be used to both view and record the input.... also to use as input (passthru) for my VCR to my PC (Have about 60 VHS videos I need to convert). Was trying to stay away from the internal ones. Would like some portability..the USB ones any good ?The standalones don't provide input to the PC. The USB ones will work fine, they usually don't feature a hardware MPEG decoder so you won't be able to use Windows MCE but other than that there shouldn't be any problems. Was trying to stay away from the internal ones. Would like some portability..the USB ones any good ?

Correct, you'd connect the LCD TV box to your PCs' LCD monitor via a VGA cable, you'd then connect the LCD TV box to the PVRs' RF output via coaxial cable. Simply tune in the LCD TV box using the supplied remote and you can then view the PVR output on your PC's LCD screen. So basically this will allow me to take the 2nd TV feed from my PVR over coax and connect to my 19" wide PC LCD that only has 15 pin D-SUB.

Also note that the LCD TV boxes allow you to connect your PCs' VGA input thus allowing you to switch between the TV tuner and PC input via remote. The Mecer box uses a non standard VGA input connector whereas the more expensive Compro boxes use a 15 pin D-SUB connector for input.
Well not really as for the setup to be consider a HTPC, you'd need the TV signal to be going through your PC. The LCD TV boxes completely bypass the PC.Nice, so perfect for HTPC then I think.
That should do the trick. It's a nice little device the but it does require an external power supply so that does reduce it's portability in comparison to the USB TV sticks which source their power from the USB port.Semi-hijack again...
Looks like the Compro Videomate S500 will do the job for me. Couldn't find any other in that price range either. Any comments on this unit ? TivoZa ?
If that feed is via RF coaxial cable then you'll need to go for something other than Compro S500. Although the Compro S500 features an RF connector, that connector is for the satellite dish input and not a standard TV aerial. Of the external Compro range, the U2800F would be the one to go for if you plan on connecting a TV aerial.1. Accept the existing feed that's currently going to a little b/w 5" portable TV and allow me to watch that on one of my LCD monitors (window, or however)
Both the Compro S500 and U2800F feature s-video & composite input so either will be able to accept input from your VCR.2. Accept VCR (or similiar ) input for the purposes of transferring video to DVD.
