damn it... they slow enough already.. i remember the full speed days regardless.. now people can't even connect due to too many connections and now we advertising again ?

Ja well, it is for everyone.

Just maybe SAIX/IS can be convinced to upgrade them in the future? (soon hopefully)

It's not like they get nothing out of it, we are paying for bandwidth to connect after all...

Im all for sharing but really do you have to advertise it?

Hey, while we at it, lets take out a full page in The Star to advertise it some more...

Whisper: Who can actually access the servers at the moment? IS is ok but SAIX is virtually unreachable.

you guys are so funny.

create your own damn news server if you want it for yourselves.

perhaps we should let telkom keep their monopoly as well, seeing that you guys are so anti-sharing.

unbelievable.

By the famous "Staff Writer" (famous for the Torrent write-up not so long ago), isn't the whole idea behind journalism creating something and then owning up for it?! To take glory where glory is due and flack where flack is due

Lets see if the news server crowd is as aggresive as the torrent crowd was not so long ago :p

I'm not angry in the least, it doesn't phase me at all. But after reading the article I have to agree with the sentiments above.

Why publicise it? Why make it an article? What benefit is there of having an article about it?

News servers are popular, voila, pointed and noted, next? :p

i thnik they are popular enough.. and there are plenty of threads about it here if a person wants to know about it... but advertise it ? seriously.. we just don't want it to become un-usable like saix mainly is now... if pople take an interest all the info is there..

Most of us use both.

Staff writer, ur lame. Whats the point in a flame war if we dont even know who u r

Not everyone knows about it, and this is one way of getting the word out. The reason torrents are 'better' is because they can scale to handle more users easier than news servers.

Not everyone has the patience to sift through 1000's of topics mostly filled with inane drivel, just to find something useful. Some people might only skim the headlines, and 'news servers' don't mean much to many people, so they might never know now either.

Heck, if you were to know about prostitution being rife in a neighborhood, not everyone would know it, and maybe there's some people looking for a good 'service agent', that don't know where to find one... Isn't that still news?

Perhaps the staff writers, or one in particular, have grown a bit more of a conscious lately, and are attempting to publicize an activity that is frowned upon.

A news server is like a precursor to forums like this one. People found a way to encode and post binary date onto these servers. That allows them to be used as a type of file distribution centre.

Someone posts a series of articles that make up a file, and other people can download these pieces, put them together, and have a copy of the original file.

You can also use it for the legit purpose of finding all kinds of information, but that's mostly handled by other, easier systems these days.

LMAO I see another Torrent topic starting... Haha this is hilarious ;)

Who had to go and blab about the news servers? I'm struggling as it is to even get a single thread to run...
