Computer Brand Battle

While the article makes a few valid points, Mustek and Sahara are struggling because of the negative image of their brands.

Proline is holding share because they are a positive brand that people perceive as quality.

exactly. It has less to do with a market slump than it does to do with the fact that most people percieve sahara and mustek as those "eeeuw do i have to" brands. proline is ok but still not great.

Dell on the other hand enjoys massive popularity due to one simple fact, they make a quality product that will last a good number of years. The market slump comes in because people here cannot afford to replace a PC or laptop every 6 months like overseas so they buy a machine to last a long time. Dell is seen as able to do that, Mustek / Sahara are not. thats as simple as it is.

Especially Sahara, with their cheap fall apart flash drives and cheap crappy speakers and the like. Nothing Sahara branded has ever been good to me except their cheap laptops.

If the people on the street actually know how expensive the local prices is the trend is gonna worsen.

terrible state of affairs

I have never been a fan of local PC brands. Just never felt that they took quality seriously. They have a habit of charging the less tech savvy majority crazy prices for junk!

Wud love to support local, but if its not right its not gonna fly with me..Proline,Mustek and Sahara are rubbish.

Their only strategy is to partner up with our equally nuts furniture chains and still rip-off the public..:(

If it runs Linux its Good

We use so many Brands from Clones Right up to IBM / Acer.

I'm not so Comfortable with HP there Hard Drives seem to go Quicker.

DELL are just not commited to Open Source. They have stuck to Microsoft.
But seen they going to change there server Range as more and more companies want Linux Support.

Had to Install a Generic Network Card to get Centos onto Network.
