For the next week I will be having the Nokia 5000 as toy (before handing it over to its real owner, my dad).
After a quick visit to my local Cell C shop I picked up a 5000 in the range default Cyber Green colour. It set me back R1100 which is very reasonable for a phone with a high pixel density QVGA screen (2") and a 1.3megapixel camera. Also, if you consider the amount of media hype around this phone (I have seen the ad about 3 times the last week) it is good to see they are not ripping people off with it.
First impressions is the very small box you get. At first you wonder if there is really a phone inside such a small box but you get not only the phone and charger but also a funky stereo headset. The smaller box is just another way Nokia is trying to be kinder to the environment. The phone itself is also very sleek and lightweight, yet when you apply pressure on it from various angles it has that firm and solid Nokia feel to it.
So far I have only had the phone for an hour and I have not had that much time to play around with it. The user interface is quick (except for the camera) and nice to look at. The camera performance is pretty mediocre for a 1.3megapixel.
This is what the package looks like :
These are two (resized) photo I have taken with the 5000 :
For now that is all I have on the 5000 - later on I will take more pics with it outdoors and perhaps check out a few of the other features is packs with its "10th of certain other much hyped phones" price. For a start I can tell you the MMS and BlueTooth feature on the 5000 works well and it also does videos, not in great quality, but it does them - all of the box
