On the vodacom website, i was able to add/remove services and check
my itemized billing.

Can it be done on the mtn's website?

Vodacom's website is still much better than MTN. You can also send 20 free SMS's and 5 MMS's from the Vodacom website, but only 5 SMS's from MTN.

Wait till you try to load/edit/view your data bundles and usage on MTN. You're in for a shocker. Not only do you need to browse to the end of the earth to find it, but you can't even do anything about it other than to stare at a very confusing, tiny result at the bottom of a page.

Vodacom wins the "manage and view your data" hands down.

Do MTN have a website where one can check the balance of a pre-paid number?
What information can one view on www.mtnloaded.co.za?

Our server room has a temperature alarm that is supposed to send an SMS when the temperature reaches a certain set point, but the SIM card is in a unit that is hard to physically get to and I need to make sure it has airtime on it.

Absolutely, I almost didn't port to MTN because of this. And on VC's site you can see whether your sms has been delivered. You can also send concatenated sms. Why is MTN so stingy with theirs?

I agree. I won't migrate just because of the user friendliness of the site. Can check what my account balance is, can add sms bundles etc, without having to go through the call center - which is a schlepp on the best of days. :p

For years i used to say i'll never switch to MTN because of their website...
but i gave up.

how difficult can it be to "copy" vodacom's website?
Make the interface different but same features.

Yep, I also find Vodacom's web site much easier to use than MTNs.

I gave up with MTN Active (was really crap), maybe it's a bit better now.

Can be done, but not in the first 3 months of your contract.
Why not?

So is there anything for MTN pre-paid users?

Kingrob are you still in Cape Town?

Hi
I dont think this service (to check prepaid balance online) is available as yet but let me check and confirm if we have plans to launch something like this soon.
Regards

Another thing that really grates my ass about MTN's website is the number of times you have to click to get to the sms page:
First go to www.mtn.co.za. Click on User login/register. Then you get to a page where you must choose either login or register. Click login. Next page loads where you fill in your cell and pin. Click login. Next page loads where you have to click on the expand ("+") sign to get to the "send sms" option where you click again. Only now you are at the stage where you can type your sms.
!! 5 clicks !!
Try using their website to send an sms with a slow data connection. It's better to just type it on your phone and pay the 85c odd :(

Vodacom on the other hand:
Type www.vodacom4me.co.za
Enter your cell and pin. Click Go
Click on "send sms". Enter sms.

i agree mtn's website is total rubbish compared to vodacom's

Yeah MTN website might be F***ed up but there EDGE coverage, Speed & latency are 100% better then Vodacom. But VC win in the 3G department.

Vodacom wins hands down when it comes to the userfriendlyness of their website. Back in the days while I was still at varsity MTN used to have a better site, www.mtnice.co.za that was a killer website specifically catered for Prepaid users. That's when most if not all their alerts (lotto, soccer, rugby, cricket, Daula jokes, etc) were FREELY*available! That was in 2000/02 I think. Damn, the good old days!

Coming to think of it MTN rackes in millions if not billions annually but they can't invest on their CRM activities. We just being taken for a ride!
