This is most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. How are they going to control this? If you have a network at home do you have to pay???

That is really strange... Does that mean that home networks between computers both using the same router to connect to the internet will have to pay tax?

That's really spastic.

Dear Ivycasa

You can extract your license fee from my posterior with your collective lips as I bend over and drop me trousers

And what of the case where I connect my laptop to my client's network to copy/collect some data?

Stupid. Dof.

EPIC FAIL.

Oi!! you need to pay your licence fees before you can connect to your laptop using a "LAN". These things are not free u know!! :D

Idiots....

That's how these comrades in the ICASA think. The well off should pay for all their little luxuries so that there is spare cash for the govt to pay for RDP houses etc (BMW X7's in reality for gov staffers).

They can force a compulsory licence that you must show when you
buy a wireless device, ala TV licence when you buy a TV.

Let me guess, Telkom will automatically be exempt  Or do they pay R1000 for their nationwide network and I also pay R1000 for my little two pc network?

I can see it already, "LAN license required when buying switch"! :D

Think the latter. 1 million LANS x R1000 = R1 Billion!

Some new Mercs and BMW's coming to the govt office near you :).

This is no time for hormonal, juvenile fantasies Gru

This is frankly insane. Manto would be impressed

I wonder when they'll tax cordless phones, especially people who have 2 after all,
they make free internal phone calls. Can't have that without SARS taking some
cash.

See that as a valid response to a hormonal, juvenile fantasy.
As the saying goes: Everybody's allowed to do or say the odd stupid thing, but they're abusing the privilege.
