The internet in 10 years time

Good article. Arthur Goldstuck is Mr Research and well respected.

Obviously I'm looking forward to all the changes in the broadband field but it's very frustrating to read that FTTH will probably only be available in SA to residential customers by 2018 while countries like Japan, Hong Kong, South Korea, Sweden and small parts of the USA have residential FTTH already! Let's hope the local roll-out is sooner.

entire article

Hi tomatosarefruit (there is an 'e' missing btw) - though there are exceptions, it's usually considered bad form to post an entire article on the forum, particularly when the author of this article is a member on the forum. Rather copy some of the text and include the link for people who wish to read more. :)

On topic, a related and most excellent article-

I don't suppose there's a way to tell that the author is a member of the forum - and generally I have read that it's considered courtesy to post more than a link on the forums. Post deleted.

I second this thread:

I have been here for some time now and have never heard it said that it's bad to quote an entire article. I have seen complaints about people posting links without quotes and I have seen people asking for entire articles to be quoted when they are hosted on international sites.

About tomatosarefruit - it's a private joke between my buddy and I and no, there is not an e missing in the context. P.S. are the peas miniature or the field?

1. The article is hosted locally.
2. It is poor form to copypaste an entire article; as it is to post only a link with no quotes. Allow me to explain why. In the first instance you are reproducing copyrighted material that someone else has paid for, and in the second instance you are pissing forumites off because they now have to open a second link simply to get a hint of what the OP is talking about.
3. There is no need to go to extremes, as was your response in deleting your entire post.
4. The peas are miniature.

It's not so hard to do - just copy and paste your comments you have just made here in a thread called 'forum etiquette'

Re: #2 by all means, have a go at mikef for the second instance. In the matter of the first instance - how much can one paste to avoid copyright issues?

Re: #3 - I take full responsibility and refer you to #2 response second point.

re#4 'I've got peas like a river...'

be careful of peas and always shave your armpits!

Massive thread derailment. Thanks a lot Debbie

Gosh this is constructive mercurial. Good thing you have so much to say on the article and that you yourself are not contributing to thread derailment.... oh wait. Is that a stone I see in your own eye?

The thread was already derailed, thanks to you btw. Next time instead of attacking the poster, maybe make a comment on your thoughts/opinions on the article and not the poster's method of posting. You ranted on and on about the way he should post but offered no opinion on the article itself. Instead you just supplied another link.

nah... in 10 years time froot will have taken over every single bulletin board and chat room if he goes on like he does now...

Sorry, the correct word should have been 'log' and not 'stone'.
