jokes aside..why is there so much negative news and sentiment towards iPhone?

(Jobs is not someone I would trust with my kid. What! you installed something our God didnt approve of? Lets brick that Iphone for you )
- Limited choice in software I can install on it
(I cant install 3rd party applications or software from other vendors)
- South Africans dont have access to a large portion of Apples services
(Itunes and many other online stores from Apple are not avalable to Saffies.

yea that would explain SA, but my buddy is in the US and he says its getting *** there to
he mentioned stuff like...
-battery can only be replaced by Apple themselves

i'm actually quite disappointed, as I was so looking forward to getting an iPhone. Really, i was totally excited and was waiting since like 3 months ago.
Then I chatted to my buddy in the US and he said not to touch it. There were issues and a lot of unhappiness. So now I'm looking for more reasons why...some real convincing reasons
I really like the UI, and also the multimedia capabilities are great, especially the browser.
The main con, for me so far is the GPS, it does seem a little watery and not very well supported with regards to SA roads etc. After all, what makes a GPS really cool is the software. Is there not perhaps a decent GPS app that can be installed that will improve the GPS's functionality?
Secondly, can i load any multimedia I want, onto the iPhone, or is it going to only allow/force me to play itunes stuff?

because the phone is 50% substance and 50% hype.
I love it every time i play with one, but when you come down to the real facts, it just isn't all that.
1 year warranty, and after that no-one will fix it in SA (confirmed by Vodacom)
Can't connect it to a laptop and use as a modem (important to many ppl)
Battery can't be replaced.
Even the cell shops that are selling them are telling me they are having many comebacks and it isn't as good as they say.
Having to have new appz approved and added only to iTunes is bull.
You shouldn't have to jailbreak a phone just to make it do what it should do anyways.
Basically the phone is mostly smoke and mirrors, and all the fans can rave about is the name and the fact that it is a fancy toy with a fashionable name.
It's for the trendy sheeple that care how they look and act, and not for the person who actually wants performance and efficiency.

Its the small things that irritate people, or well that irritated me with the old one. You need fancy apps to forward SMS, and what really sucked was no mass messaging.... Typing on screen on the phone gets "not so hard" after a while, but there is no feedback when u press a button, so if u typing fast, and u miss a button it becomes a mission. Navigating on the touch screen when typing an email was also a lot more clumsy than my old IMATE....
On the plus it looks cool, tho i rather get a G1 now

Ok, thank for all the imput, I appreciate it, I just think its useful to have these points, so people can get a truthful overview of what they getting themself in for.
For me, i think the support for only 1 yr is shocking, that alone is reason enough.
Anyways, thanx again, if anyone else has any intelligent/useful comments, pls add them here...after all, we all work hard for our money and considering the fact that we can only like renew your phone every 2 years or so, on average, its a major big deal to make sure the phone you take on your contract, is in fact the phone that will endure the lifetime of the contract.

I rate its pretty sweet. There are tons of apps you can get free with applications like cydia, and all its problems will soon be fixed with their new firmware updates according to most sites. Plus its an ipod, with a sick touch screen interface and smoothe running os.

Let me make it even easier for you NOT to buy one:
You can't MMS
You can't forward SMS
You can't copy/paste
You can't take photo's at night as there is no flash
You can't expand the memory with a MicroSD as you are limited to ONLY 8GB/16GB
You can't navigate
You can't use another SIM Card when you go overseas or wish to use another network as its lock
You can't remove the battery
You can't use the phone to get your laptop on the Internet (no tethering)
You can't remove the sim card unless you have some sort of pin
You can't record video
You can't use Adobe Flash in the web browser as it's not offered
You can't use it without an iTunes Store account.
You can't use it as an external HD (Disk Mode) like you would use your iPod
You can't send/receive a file over Bluetooth
You can't type a SMS in landscape mode
You can't multitask or run apps in the background
You can't type fast without a LOT of practice
You can't use standard earphone jacks, as it's recessed.. (on 2G model)
You can't sync wirelessly via bluetooth
A simple Nokia can do ALL of the above, so don't waste your money fellow forumites...

ee-yo yo yo, iphone is sounding more nasty by the minute, ok, the only thing I'm feeling sick at, is in the pit of my stomach. I'm so glad I never got one, what a piece of crap! for once I will listen to my instinct and wait for the BB Storm. You can do all those things and more with my ooooolllllddddd Nokia N70, almost 3 yrs old now and it can do more than the iPhone

You can, it's the NR1 app out there.
My boss has it and he showed me there is an app that displays if a surface is level, like those rulers with the water bubble in it.
pretty nice phone ALL ROUND i'd say...

There have been a stack of calls about how every manufacturer is trying to copy the iPhone but it seems the roles may actually be reversed...
so the iPhone is copying "Every Manufacturer" IE Symbian OS because some guy wrote a waterpass(?) app ?
LMAO! that's like saying Microsoft is copying Apple because someone wrote a little piece of software called "ObjectDock"
