AS the title say I am looking for a proper program to convert DVD movies from DVD to DivX..

I tried plenty software programs, but most look cr@p once the movie is converted to DivX.. How do the guys copy dvd's to divX like the ones u download from the net.. and still have very good quality..

Best I have been able to do is with Nero Recode, but the only problem is that Recode only make MP4 movies which is not compatible with most DivX DVD players.

So if anyone know of some good software or tutorials on how to go about.. Plzzz. need some help.

Edited: Nero Recode got a nice feature of keeping the chapters in the MP4.. Is it possible to do the same with DivX???

OK, I want you to forget everything that anyone else tells to you, they are all crap and too difficult to use (sorry... but it is true) :p. The program you are looking for is called FairUseWizard and it is the only one you need to hassle with. It is good enough to register, but the free version is also just perfect!

Trust me.. this is the program you want. You want mess around with anything else once you have used this. It is easy enough to do it all with one click ... but can be customised more if need be.

Seriously, don't waste any more time. This is the program you had in mind when you first created this thread. Seriously.

That program works just fine with 1 Click... but...

I find I get a much better quality rip, when I follow these steps...

1) Use DVD Decrupter to rip the DVD to your Hard Drive.
2) Use DVD Shrink to make an ISO image of the DVD, but turn the compression off completely, in other words, the ISO image will be an exact image of the DVD. Also enable the two extra read options in DVD Shrink to get a better quality image, it is slower, but it pays off. Put that image on a different drive to the one you are going to rip to.
3) Now use Fair Use Wizard to rip from that unencrypted image in your hard disk. You will get a very high quality rip with no artifacts and no "streaking".

Compare that to a rip straight from the DVD and you will see what I mean. Of course the quality of your DVD drive and speed of your processor is also a factor. 3.0 Ghz strongly recommended!

Here is a guide for Fair Use Wizard... if you need one...

Agreed on all except I replace stage 3 with Dr DivX .

Step 3 is long - about 2 hours or more for a normal movie - is FUW any faster ?

Only problem I ever have is out of synch audio, but I don't know at which stage this happens.

PS: This seems to be a weekly topic - more peeps cancelling DSTV ?

can confirm this method works the best.

I think the speed of the conversion and re-encoding process depends on your processor. I am doing it on a Core2Duo 3.0 Ghz with 2 Gb of RAM. It also depends on the size of the movie. But fairly large movies seem to be done within two hours.

I have never, ever had any problems with audio synch. I think FUW first makes an index file and then does it in a two-stage process and checks the synch against the index.

i'm having reasonable success using a combination. first Dvd decrypter to rip the actual data off the dvd into a 4 or so gig .vob file on your computer. then auto gordian knot to encode that into an avi. just ensure you have the XviD/DivX codecs installed..
now maybe someone can help me, how can i fix an avi so that the player/etc doesn't shutdown with some "unexspected error", prolly a memory access violation

Run the file through another encoder... like DivX Encoder or ZC Video Converter. But you should have used Fair Use Wizard to start off with! ;)

Can FUW calculate video quality buy output size? IE> Instead of specifying the quality, can you select what you want the end size to be?

There are never any audio syncing problems with FUW fyi.

FUW can do anything... at least... the registered version can. The free version is limited to maximum file Size of 700 MB.
