Not sure if this is in the correct place but here goes:

I get home today, open my laptop and try to get on the net using my wiresless ADSL router.

Nada, nothing. So I ipconfig and ip, subnet and gateway is what it should be.

Ping my home pc, no problem
Ping my router, no problem

Try and get to a website - nothing

Home machine has got no problems.
So I bounce my laptop, then the router, still the same.

If I do a tracert on the notebook I get to the router then to 41.242.64.1.
If I do a tracert on my home machine the same happens except it resolves the ip to dsl-242-64-01.telkomadsl.co.za but not on the notebook.

If I connect to 3G on my laptop everything is fine.

Does anybody have any idea?

I can still browse my shares on my home machine from the notebook, it just seems that it cant connect to any name servers. I have no proxy settings on either as the router is set up as a DHCP.

Dammit, I haven't done anything funny in the last 2 days or so since I used my notebook over my home network?

/me = really confused

Sorry for edit, some more info. PC is connected to router with CAT5

Have you tried the Notebook via cable to see if it makes a difference?

hhmmm, same issue with cable. I wonder what is up with the notebook since I can get on fine with the 3g modem in the notebook.

I think its time to run some serious diag on the little b*tch!

Think its DNS, try to to PING 196.43.1.11 from your command prompt, if you get reply's, then set your DNS manualy to that IP address...

Ok, went to my office today for a meeting, plugged in the notebook and everything was fine.

I'm starting to think it might be with my IBM Access Connections, will try in a little bit and let you know!

It can't be the DNS as the home machine is fine on the same DNS.

Ok, everything worked at the office.

Back home and re-setup my whole access point, re-created the settings on notebook and still nothing.

However, I can ping sites if I use the ip address.

LO and behold, if I use the above mentioned dns server it works!!!!

Now why the hell will the same DHCP settings still work on my one machine and suddenly not on my notebook? Person who can tell me that wins a case of beer! I would have figured the same would happen with 3g or my office network.....

:confused::confused::confused::confused::eek::eek:

Awhile ago I also had my WAN ip change between the regular and a 41.x.x.x adress. This happened for a few days and then stopped. Experienced slow speeds and regular disconnects as well.:D

For a case of beer, ill give it a shot

Sure others have found the same thing, did you recently update to Win XP SP3?
Have found that once upgraded normal DNS does not always work as it used to.

Cheers
