National bandwidth prices under pressure

I agree, there will be tons of excuses to not pass enough savings on to the customers!
 
Telkom will find a way not to lower prices, erm come to think of it they just not lower it they don't need an excuse
 
This is exactly what iam afraid of. It doesn't help international is cheap and you pay an arm and a leg for "local" trafic.

They need to invest in IP networks where according to Huawei and Nokia Siemens Network speakers at last week’s CRASA event (Migration Towards All-IP) IP core networks are 30-50% cheaper in CAPEX terms and 30% in OPEX terms.

Could someone explain what they mean by All-IP networks, what are the non All-IP operators running? IPX or NetBIOS? Shouldn't it rather be circuit based switching vs packet switching/virtual circuit switching? :confused:

I am a bit optimistic though. We in South Africa are better off, thanks to democracy (recent court case comes to mind). Seacom have been very transparent with the way they will do business and dates etc. Their prices are almost known. With the glut of small players, all having access to the international cable at the same price as the major players, I think it will be very difficult for anyone to try to shaft us like they have been doing.

Actually i think it just means we will have to put up with excuses and this being South Africa, the business model means they wies. Remember the cull all follow the lead and provide minimal differences to each other in terms of pricing and will sing along the same tunes of excusrrent economic problems, i don't think Telkom, vodacom, mtn etc will want to drop their profits especially when their margins can get bigger. So yah, difference now is just that we know how much they messing with us.

very much so, it's like the petrol price it should have gone down with the drop in the oil price but the rand got worse so the petrol stays where it is.
