Has your MTN Data Bill Suddenly Sky Rocketed??

Mine has...
starting from June this year...but my use of the internet and email has not...and the standard response I recieve from MTN's 808 is "the CDR's on your account say that this usage is from your SIM - therefore you are liable to pay"

Fair enough - except for that fact that the 15 months prior to that my entire monthly account averaged R700...and I am now spending R4900 per month - and climbing....(did 6 gigs from 27 Nov - 12 Dec apparently:rolleyes:)

Yes I have firewalls
No I don't have updates or viruses attacking

so I would like to know how many other users have had similar problems...I have already found 4 others on this site alone....

I agree, something is wrong here. This month I will use a logbook every day and I have Netmeter plus DU meter. Will log each day's usage. Not that it will prove anything to them.
It is beyond me how I used 170MB in 1 hour with Edge. Not once, but twice in 1 month.
I have not downloaded any programmes or pics. and my auto update is disabled.
 
I have the same problem, since June, about R 13 000 spent on Internet Usage, and according to MTN, 'the usage vs billing is correct'!!
What BULL S*%T !!! The periods prior to that is all within the R495 range, as it should be according to my 2Gig bundle!
What can one do?
 
You should just get a pay as you go sim card . And buy a 2gig/ect data bundle . Its much cheaper . Also even if you want to surf the net for fun try using opera mini on yr phone . If you have latest opera on yr phone you can even download videos , mp3 , check yr email . it cut costs so much , edge is useless .

I have the same problem, starting from November this year and is now sitting with an account of R13 359. Downloading 170mb in 13 minutes. Please let me know if you know of anything I can do not to pay this amount.

i think mtn are crooking ppl
i got charge R1.14 for talking for 18 seconds
and they say this is true per second billing?
i asked for itemised billing then i'm goin to take it up with them
and they say u get 350 airtime on anytime 350
but if u check *162*.... when ur new airtime comes its only R307
 
Maybe the resident MTN rep on myADSL can help here?

Otherwise vote with your feet and port over to Voda or CellC.
 
Interesting that last week when I was asking for opinions on VC vs MTN, (http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showpost.php?p=2480848&postcount=1)
the only responses were PRO MTN....
Good thing I haven't committed to anything yet... ;-)

the truth is both networks are equally shocking in service & prices. best flip a coin to decide. mtn has favorable contracts price wise & voda are more expensive... mtn's billing & online tools only work 50% of the time, vodacom's tools are better.
 
I also have been billed more than usual. I called them and asked about it, they checked it out and couldn't give me an answer for the extra amount I payed. They said that they will credit my account..... Shocking that so many people are over billed?! :eek:

I'm a prepaid subscriber... HOW THE %#! DID I LOSE +100 MB IN LESS THAN 2 HOURS OF NET SURFING!!!!???? I DIDN'T DOWNLOAD ANYTHING. I DISABLED WINDOWS UPDATE / ANTI VIRUS UPDATE / Any Auto-updaters.

Interestingly, when I connected to the net again (in 3G mode) and leave it connected for an hour...... guess what! :D LOST ANOTHER +15MB... AWESOME MAN!!!!! NO!

I JUST WANT A NEW ISP TO EMERGE AND OWN ALL THE OTHER ****TY USELESS ISPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
 
You should be losing about 2mb over a 12 hour period if you leave it. Something on your pc is updating or you are logged into a ton of messaging clients & leaving web pages open that refresh constantly. That or its malware
 
hey, this does not seem like a completely new thing here, the same thing happened to me almost 18mnths ago, i'm still waiting for MTN to explain just how it is possible to download 100mb of data in 10mins... but got tired of waiting, i've moved to another service provider where I can keep tabs on my usage.. I have wasted enough money on this prepaid stuff to last me a lifetime, unfortunately there's good and bad in all the providers, something we are forced to live with...

Hope you all get your billing sorted!!! and seriously???? R13000+ for downloads what are you a fortune 500 company????

All I am left with is 'Eish'
