No signal in sight

HARDLY A WEEK after the demise of GTV - the British-based pay-TV purveyor with interests in sub-Saharan Africa - MultiChoice has swiftly moved to reclaim the top tier English league soccer rights previously held by the now defunct GTV.

FTA (Free To Air) satellite is the only alternative to DSTV.

Multichoice is the only pay TV option south of the Sahara. North Africa, Morocco et al have a few European satellite providers but that's about it.

Grim times in terms of choice :(

problem is there is not muvh on fta not much in english any way n most stuff requires big dishes considering most of us live in complexes i wonder what the view would be like several houses with 1.8m dishes

Perhaps one of the people more familiar with the law could assist here, what are the chances of starting up a free broadcasting type system like the WUGs? It's not commercial, you pay to connect but after that, in essence it's FTA and doesn't cross into the commercial space?

I'm just throwing ideas out here as everyone knows TV in SA sucks and doesn't look set to improve anytime in the near future.
