Instead of producing new phones, why don't they produce solar chargers for existing phones?
Bound to be a market as well.
I'm not knocking this, it's a good idea to have, especially in rural areas (and ZimBOBwe) where electricity is scarce.

Seems to be moving towards one tyoe of charger... also I have seen some solar chargers with adaptors for nokia, htc etc...at the airport.

If you could pick up a solar charger for <40USD, it could potentially be used with your current phone, and your phone after that. AFAIK, the stand alone chargers have their own battery that gets charged and is then used to charge whatever you plug into it- iPods, phones, whatever. Good idea.

Some solar chargers do have an internal battery, and some just have the charger itself. Either way, I've heard that they don't work all that well, and take ages to charge anything.

The basestations can either be solar powered or wind turbine powered. Saves diesel costs.. like in Nigeria..generator runs most of the time...
