Vodacom to list on the JSE on 5 May 2009

Wish I had the Rs for some shares...
Do you think in the current market conditions (economic downturn, credit crunch and the like) it will be a good investment? I think Vodacom may be a good buy, but the markets as a whole is rather sick at the moment.

As a long term investment, most certainly. Short term volatility is an issue with all equities at the moment though and wouldn't be unique to Vodacom. Strange timing for an IPO though. I will be investing sooner rather than later though - I'll be very interested to see the trading volumes for this stock on 9 May, especially the buy/sell order volumes...

It will indeed be interesting. I suspect there may be a bit of a rally initially, but the market is such a mess that it will most likely not be like Telkom's listing back in 2003...

6 May is when you'll make some money if you're day trading imo and a little averse to risk - unless of course there are a few big pundits with large opening trades but they'll hide them well if that's the case. Ooh, I'd pay some good money to get hold of Vodacom's first Share Register Analysis. Time to re-acquaint myself with some old Computershare mates...:D

Cool, I'll will be buying some shares then. Love them, hate them but Vodacom is a profitable company with massive future growth.
I agree, but I am rather hesitant to jump into the JSE at this stage. My previous small investment is now worth less than 50% its initial value, so putting your money under your mattress many not be that bad an option in the current market :) As a long term investment Vodacom is surely one of the best companies around.

buying shares, just like any investment should be a medium to long term investment unless you're a professional day trader.

The listing was planned before the economic crisis....

Your old investment is worth 50% of initial value, so they 'giving' you a 50% discount on new purchases, so now would be the time to buy more.

Usual disclaimers apply.

I wonder what VC's listing price will be.

Many an IPO has been delayed due to various factors. This shows Vodacom's sentiment that the market won't be getting much better any time soon...
