Vodacom joins Neotel/MTN fibre project

It's always positive to see company's getting together in a group to give Telkom the finger. Hopefully, this will only translate into positive things for consumers.

something in the line of 'now we are going to to screw your customers too!'

Sounds good, but...

:(

What I do hope is that they will pass the savings on to their customers, and not enrich themselves by buying bandwidth at 0.0001c a terabyte, and re-selling it at R70.00 a Gig...

Its kind of like sharing a tower isn't it? They will keep crying if the single fibre network is over capacity and make sure to pass over the burden to their constomers.:(

they are going to become like hellkom...overload their lines, and say that there is not enough room for the bandwidth required, therefore either capping consumers or charging them a fortune.....we have heard this all to many times. whats the differance between everyone jamming hellkom's lines now and in a few months everyone will be on this new line? there is no differance

Lol was this top secret? Vodas been laying cables for the past year already...
They even bought out the orange trucks!!:o

Funny thing is, they buy bandwidth in availability/time. As in so many Gigabits per second. Then they (ISP) translate that into 1GB of data usage. They get uncapped but in through put. Why not apply the same to us, lower the throughput, but make it uncapped like everyone else. :( If that bottle neck is not removed, then we will never see internet revolution happening here in ZA. How come local is not uncapped? There is still a big finger in the pie preventing us from liberating our internet...

This is mixed news.

I'm glad they're partnering up, because it means less dependence on Telkom, and therefore *should* mean better Internet for their customers (me!).

However, as some folks have pointed out, one can never rule out price-fixing on their behalf. Also, they know that the South African public have been paying through the nose for so long, so they might decide to just continue reaping huge profits.

I'm hoping for the former, and not the latter. Stay positive! :-)

At first I thought Duo Poly. Actually I think we are ruled by the iron fist:

Thumb: Cell C
Index: Virgin
Middle: MTN
Ring: Neotel
Little: Vodacom
Hand: Telkom

They all dependent on Telkom.

That is just the one hand, linked to the body via the arm called SAT3.
In June this hand will be duplicated on the second arm called SEACOM.

LOL I am picturing telkom right now... Probably speechless and angry... I wonder what they have to say to all this new broadband activity in SA, especially that article on SA to get a wake up call for broadband... Its sick if you think about it compared to the rest of the world.
