I refer to my complaint on HelloPeter - http://www.hellopeter.com/neotel-lied-to-by-salesman-[250215]

Since this complaint I have had a Neotel Techie at my house, switched out my neotel lite to Neoflex 10GB, even though I have a red signal light I had speeds of around 384 which is ok for my usage.

I have the following complaints:

1) I received my first statement/invoice from Neotel which firstly is incorrect because Steven from the complaints department insured me that I will not be billed for my 6 days of usage on the old package because it just didnt work at my house... Guess what? there are charges of a few hundred rands on my invoice for the lite package... They were meant to debit my account (Thank g-d they didnt).

I have mailed this incorrect invoice to neotel on the 13/03 and have had no response at all! I have been trying to get Stevens email address without any luck at all.

2) the past 2 days have been an absolute nightmare... my neotel shows connected but no ping responses and no browsing.. somehow it corrected itself this morning.

3) What I think is absolutely stupid with Neotel is the fact that even NeoFlex works on a type of dialup system.. if u look on the default admin page of the router you will notice a dial number of #777 or something... when your pc is inactive it disconnects and as soon as u move your mouse it reconnects... this really helps with remote access etc.. I thought of running a perm ping but the truth is 1byte*60*24*365 can really work out to be allot of wasted BW.

4) I needed to download Java on my newly purchased PC and Neotel just didnt like the 500k file I needed... it would get to 35% and halt... I tried direct downloads, then thought Bitcomet, Limewire and boom nothing... eventually I landed up downloading the file on one of my hosted linux boxes and ftping it down from there..

The 60KB/s to 0 in a few seconds is very annoying!.

Hopefully the Neotel rep on here will see this and maybe ill get some action cause at this stage im considering rather having no internet than paying R699 per month for a service which isnt working, an accounts department mis-billing me..

Just for interest sake. A ping message is 56 bytes in linux and 32 bytes in windows, if you add the control bits the entire packet will be 84 bytes or 60 bytes respectively.

Could it be that your signal is just not good enough? I know at my place with vodacom 3g it does the same kind of thing you are talking about in the evenings. The signal is just too trash

As for the modem disconnecting when your computer is idle, that is just stupid.

agreed. anyone want me to write an app that would simulate mouse movements when it doesn't move for too long?

of course, your screensaver will not function correctly though, but if you're downloading at night and put the screen off, it would work.

ask for it, and i'll code it.:o

I dont think so cause its worked fine for like 2 weeks...
My main concern here is the misbilling and ignoring my emails/calls to neotel...
its pathetic!

Also I totally agree the disconnecting this is just stupid! it is not Broadband,

ok then, i guess i'm not needed here *sob sob*

Can someone confirm this? It sounds so broken it can't be right.

Well i have noticed my laptop and ps3 disconnects on wifi from the neoflex device without no reason and it is not even idle. And just to add i have to switch off and on the device to reconnect.

how about the fact that the modem requires a reboot after every single change! for example add an additional mac address to the mac filtering! reboot required! hah

I also have loads of problems with the AP. sometimes it just wont allow my pc's to connect.. for absolutely no reason, hangs on assigning IP and then doesnt.

@ sihen: Please provide me with your Neotel service number.

Hi Dylan,

You can expect a call from Samantha / Steven today.

Shame, the name Samantha crops up a lot when it comes to dealing with issues on MyBB. The woman deserves a huge raise for dealing with all the annoyed customers that get sent her way.

Hi Neotel,

Steven has called me. thank you very much! now he just needs to sort out my account.
The next issue is my router. signal is terrible and my Wifi just decides to stop working from day to day. it works and picks up on my devices but its almost as if the mac filtering dies or something because it wont allow those devices to connect.

Devices stay connected if it is wired or using a static ip on wifi but for some reason connection drops on wifi if the ip is not set the device is junk.

Yep, it seems to be an issue with the DHCP, sometimes it hangs when assigning IPs.

What I find really funny, is when one of the guys from neotel came and tested the Neoflex device at my house, it worked beautifully. Mine on the other hand keeps losing signal, and the connection keeps dropping.

With regards to the moving of the mouse, I assume that happens when you have gmail open? It's not the mouse movement that makes it dial up again, it dials up every time you request something from the internet.
