Hi

Please use this thread to list the online playability of games using Neotel.
Please state whether you are using NeoConnect Prime or NeoFlex Data.
Please state you console as well, might have different experience with multi-platform games.
This will save a lot of people the frustration of finding out afterwards that a game is actually unplayable online.

Many thanks :)

My experience using NeoConnect Prime with PS3:

WipeoutHD (Without LAG, great) :)
UT3 (Some LAG)
Eye of Judgement (Not sure, since the opponent might be thinking, seems fine) :)
Super Puzzle Fighter (Unplayable)

I will be upgrading to NeoFlex data soon, so will let you know on any improvements.

Apparently KZ2 is fine on the NeoFlex data:
Ive been using my neoflex router to play online via PS3.

The following games work fine:
Call of Duty 5
Killzone 2
Team Fortress 2 PC

The following games work terribly:
Team Fortress 2 Ps3

It should be noted that I have a wireless n router attached to my neoflex device which performs my wireless connectivity for me, but it shouldnt matter if ure router is placed close to ure ps3. If there is lag, its not very evident.

Me too, the bastards....hahaha, can't wait to give it a shot, should have it by the 1st of April. :D

Maplestory Global is unplayable with NeoConnect Prime. The latency is simply too high.

Maybe it will be a good idea for people to post their console as well.
Not sure if it will make a difference in playability, but it will be good to know and avoid confusion. Example with multi-platform games.

For the record, I'm using a PS3.

(Updated my first post accordingly.)

World of Warcraft.

Generally playable using Neoflex 10GB account and no external antenae.

Normal latencies are in the 500ms range spiking up to 800ms.

I have had latencies as high as 3000ms.

I have experienced some strange latency spikes where the in game latency does not change but you are completely shut out for a few seconds. This might be more of a disconnect/reconnect issue on the router or network rather than a pure latency issue.

Using Gamemax I have been able to get consistent latency below 300ms. I see green and I get excited.

This is a tricky question to answer, as obviously one person's Neotel experience would (and does) greatly vary from one person to the next. Your main issues would come in with your signal quality from your residence to the tower. If you can get that right, then you can probably play any game just fine over Neoflex as far as my experience goes.

I can play WoW just fine over my Neoflex Data 10GB if I move my modem outside to my balcony and put it on top of two tables (this allows a throughput rate of about 1.3mbps.) Latency is around 350-600ms. If I don't do this, then I can at most participate in 10man raids, as my bandwidth drops to around 100-150kbps. I'm waiting for my antenna to arrive, which would then obviously solve all of my issues.

Neoflex Data Tested

Greetings all.

I currently own a neoflex prime 1GB and looking at "migrating" to the Neoflex Data.

I have a funny scenario:

I live in Ruimsig, my closest transmitters are Westgate and Honeydew.

If I put my neoflex prime in my study, which is on my 2nd floor facing in Westgate's direction I get horrible speeds and only a single bar of reception.

If I put my unit downstairs where my console is, it actually somehow faces Honeydew, where I get reasonable speeds.

So, in my search for better performance I borrowed a Neoflex Data from the callcentre and took it home for testing.

Herewith my results:

Local Ping: 73 - 85ms ( 168.210.2.2 )
International ping: 230 - 246ms (www.google.co.uk)

Speedtest.neotel.co.za results:

1175kbps download ( 146.9KB/sec )
631 bkps upload (78.9KB/sec)

Speed.io results:

1073kbps download
575kbps upload

Gaming Results:

Burnout Revenge - reasonable performance, slight "bouncing"
Dead or Alive 4 - horrible but playable - better than vodacom3g
Saints Row 2 - ( typical first person shooter comparitive ) to much lag keep getting killed!

So, only managed to test local play with a vodacom 3G user who at the time had horrible speeds - 300kbps down and 100kbps up. So no fair test could be performed on local gaming.

At all times use of the headset is maintained, even in 5 - 6 player games of burnout revenge.

Streaming on xbox live you typically wait about 2 - 3 minutes ( 10 - 20mb ) before the video starts playing, typically the clip will stop and queue some more and then stream again.

Compared to 3G this is great since there you just wait and eventually give up.

So, that is my initial testing, hope it helps someone!

I have neoflex data and can play cod4 ok local but no chance against internationals.
wii games such as mario cart work just fine, probably cause there is no voice involved

More NEOTEL

Greets!

I managed to hook my XBOX360 up to a neotel corporate link.

International Ping Rate of 150ms and local of 1ms.

I found the experience to be perfect in every way.

So add 70ms and you got a neoflex data....

Which from my testing I can confirm "felt" much the same....

Just a quick note, I managed to host a full house of Wingman 2 for gamerlobby.net using a corporate neotel link.

Herewith the Stats for the 2 hour session:

Category Total Max Min Avg 95th Percentile

IN
161.25 MB 195.22 Kbps 0.00 14.92 Kbps 156.31 Kbps

OUT
181.66 MB 187.31 Kbps 0.00 16.8 Kbps 151.97 Kbps

Greetings.

2 New Developments:

1: My router said goodnight to me. Took 2 days including the day I lodged the complaint and my router was replaced + I get a credit for my service being down during that time - amazing

2: One of the towers in my area went down due to the recent storms and during my investigations I found that my internal antenas are in fact connecting to a tower 7km from my house. This combined with the fact that I tested using a pole standing out the window of my second floor - giving me a 10rssi drop in noise and improvement in signal, has finally driven me to the point of actually mounting my external antenna.

I will feed back on my progress once this little project is completed....

will wow work?

guys

i've gone a week without adsl after telkom stuffed me around *surprise*. first they told me to buy a new modem, which i did, then only to discover that the problem is in fact adsl line. anyway, i've had enough.

i use adsl to play wow, so does my wife. i'm in the dog box with her cos she is on holiday and can't play wow all day like she planned.

i'm seriously considering going and getting the neoflex 10g device... but i must know if it works ok for wow. i just got decent gear with my recently levells 80 dk and i'm starting to raid with my guild... so i need to know if neotel is stable enough for that.

i'm so sick of 3rd rate rubbish service - i dont ask for much, i just want to play wow with my wife - its such a rare thing to find a woman who is addicted to wow as i am, so i dont need much. i'm not a big downloader, but i do like fast access cos i do a lot of browsing.

your comments would be appreciated.

OK I use the Neoflex for WoW and most of the time it is great for WoW.
That said it is VERY location dependent. I get good coverage and almost all the time my latency is in the yellow (occasionally green)

The biggest problem I have had so far is that when the signal does drop it reallocates you an IP address and WoW freezes. You then need to restart the game to get back in.

this really sucks when you are busy healing an instance.

Realistically it is good enough for the casual player and for up to 5 man HCs but depending on your role in the raid I would be skeptical about using it for raiding. (DPS OK. Tank and healers not so much)

Quick Update: Speeds now dropped 60% with the external antenna down to +/- 500kbps down and +/- 200 - 400kbps up. Without the external antenna I now get 80kbps down.... Called Neotel, congested tower blamed, contract being cancelled at no cost to me as of the end of the month... Can anyone guess what service I am getting as a replacement... ?

Hi all,

It's been five years since someone last posted on this forum. I was wonderfing if there's anyone who has recently or has been using the NeoFlex Data device and how it's been like since now the download speeds are up to 3.1Mbps. I'm looking into getting one because Telkom won't replace cables in my area.
