I ordered a new phone from Expansys.co.za. The price sounded good and the colour wasn't easily available in SA.
I asked the guys at the company for information about whether the phone was new and they said it was, but that the box wasn't sealed. This worried me a lot because how do we know it wasn't a demonstration version or bought off e-bay? They said they were a big listed company and I shouldn't worry.
I paid the cash directly into their bank account on a Friday morning, and expected them to process it as soon as they got it, as they claim on their website ("processed if order placed before 4pm"). However, Expansys only started looking at my order the following week.
Their website also promises you can track your order online, which doesn't work. You have to ring them, but they also don't answer the phone. I tried on Friday and nobody bothered to pick up.
I didn't hear anything until about a week later when they said it had arrived. In the next breath they said it was a different colour, asking me if I wanted that one! I was furious and said no. They didn't seem very sorry at all. I had asked someone to wait at home in case it arrived and had spent time phoning them, now all that was wasted!
The two guys I spoke to were very unhelpful and refused to give me their surnames, even though they claimed to be directors. They made a lot of promises about sending me information about what went wrong with the order, but they didn't do it. They spun some yarn about sourcing the phone locally to get it to me quicker, but two people told me different stories and the phone changed colour three times, so make your own mind up.
I'm still waiting for the refund, even after they said it would be processed on Friday last. It looks like they don't do work on Friday, because they told me they only started refunding on Monday.
I still don't have the money. They've also refused compensation because they claim they were still within their 10 day promise. (I still can't get my head around that explanation
). In fact their promise was 7-10 days.
It looks like this outfit is just a disorganised processing and packing office for the UK branch. They have no idea of customer service. They also keep their computers turned off and you have to wait for them to log in.
I should have been alerted when I first spoke to these guys and when they were very defensive in general about things. You know when people get a lot of complaints, they develop that blase attitude and you can hear it in their voice.
