MTN to invest heavily in network

Speaking at an MTN SA media briefing, chief technology officer Sameer Dave said the bulk of that money would go towards radio (26%), core radio (13%), transmission (24%) and core (11%), while infrastructure would get 9% of the budget.

that's 83%.

Where's the remaining 17% ????

This article is so ystday, currently we want an apology from MTN & an undertaking for good service in future...

Its about time, these companies are neglecting investing here at home, over-charging us and taking profits to build new empires in Nigeria or Iran or whatever country.
I am really not happy with MTN these days, reminds me of ESKOM

It seems there may just be light at the end of the (fibre) tunnel - let's trust spending the extra R6Billion not only results in a better MTN experience locally, but that it also assists the SA economic recovery by multiples of R6Billion.

How could this possibly be better ??? There is not enough bandwidth and back haul currently, so how will adding more base stations help ???

Mobile communications group MTN SA said it is to invest a further six billion rand into its network in 2009 to provide the non-existent capacity, quality and coverage, and 8 billion rand in total, excluding acquisitions.

I hate MTN, I have been a sufferer (subscriber) for the past 19 months and have had nothing but the worst reception anywhere I go, I have to call people regularly over 10 times getting connection error or no signal messages before I just give up, 90% of my sms'es Never arrive (i get read reports and get charged for them, but often its faster to just drive to the person and talk to them face to face instead of SMS now).

Strange, I have the exact opposite experience with MTN, however I do have the same experience on Vodacom's network.
