Neotel launches new data center

It is great to see more competition in all areas of telecoms. The more competition, the lower the pricing – good news for website owners ;)

Always good news,

But Neotel are not doing much in terms of building a brand other than in the corporate space, and even there they're not doing wonders.

+1

What South Africa needs is a decent competitor to Telkom and not a mediocre jack of all trades.
I'd rather see Neotel first become a serious competitor to Telkom in the fixed line business before they start branching into other fields.
The last thing I'd do if I owned a business, is trade with a company that can't do anything well.

OMG
Thats that awful building with puke cheap orange paint on the side of the N1.
Please use another coat of paint or get it exactly the same as Ibursts orange :)

I doubt that this would have any advantages for me? I suppose that this would only fit the requirements of big enterprises that need to host stuff?

If their data center crashes, will they need to shut it all down, remove the batteries from the UPS system and restart it? :)

They should be sorting out the current issues before jumping all over the place. I saw their people signing up people in Bedfordview over the weekend, whats up with that?

they already struggling with the current load, why add more to it?

Initially the focus may well be on the corporate and enterprise market, but the advantages of competition always filter down. Smaller hosting companies can, for example, get a few racks in the Neotel data centre if the pricing is more competitive than Internet Solutions and MTN-NS. This is why all competition is welcome – gives smaller players more negotiation power and in the end consumers win.

I have spoken to Neotel about selling their other products (Ne0flex etc) and they are not interested in smaller companies doing this. So I have not interest in selling their products or hosting in their environment as their is no package option. Guys like IS who seem to know what is happening in the market are making millions off resellers like us.

fail they have no customer service why should we give them any business? Give me 3 good reasons

A month or so ago we were looking for hosting for a solution we developed for a local customer. I suggested we try and see what Vodacom has to offer from their new data center so we asked them to meet us.

They made a massive impression and their offerings are reasonable. The fact that they have an outstanding market presence and quality being synonymous with their name did help. Being passionate about what they do also helps - they even wanted us to come and visit the data center in Johannesburg to show us around.

Neotel on the other hand does not have the same market presence and their name is synonymous with other things. I hope they can overcome this and perhaps be a viable competitor for the likes of Vodacom and MTN-NS. Then again, I also had hopes of them calling me back in January to confirm coverage in my area (as they promised). Sometime it is the small things that can make a big difference.

Eitherway, competition is a good thing.

iWho? You mean the guys who made complete iDiots of themselves in the market claiming copyright on orange? :D They don't seem to be able to print any two posters in the same colour, so which of their fifty shades were you thinking of? If you've noticed that the new building is Neotel, I guess they got your attention, and you recognised the colour. That's branding for you.

I must say i kind of liked their service... you sign the contract, they install, the product don't work (or works rather poorly) you call in ask to speak to a manager and the contract is canceled
