Live traffic updates to your mobile

nice to see netstar/tracket et al are making extra money of where my car's position is at the moment....

so they are using a clients info/location without his/hers consent? surely that is illegal? where is a legal expert

The only information used is that A car is on the highway and not moving. It's hardly personal info.

Perhaps they should offer a discount for it.
The service is charged at R12 a week and subscribers will receive 10 traffic updates for their R12.

That seems a bit steep.

as a netstar subscriber I expect the service to be free or almost free.

Sorry I see it is actually Tracker that is involved not Netstar.

I would find this service useful, but it certainly won't have enough value to me to pay R48/month. I can see how certain businesses such as courier companies may use it extensively.

Most people listen to the radio on their way home, and those radio stations periodically have traffic updates, so I don't see a need for this service.

I agree - but it depends on the depth of info you're getting. most radio updates say "traffic by intersection x is backed-up" or "robots at x are out" - if this said like "allandale to new road is slow (15km/h)" it adds a lot more value.

i don't want any of my info there, it's got nothing to do with them where i am or how fast i am driving :D.

Here is a free service......

Print this out and paste it on your dashboard:

All main Highways and backroad routes are jammed packed and moving at 5 kph from 7am to 9am and from 4-30pm to well past 6pm. Take that as gospel.

*That takes care of 80% of what you need to know. :)
