10 Gbps DFA-Tenet-Seacom network goes live

This is somewhat of a surprise - great to see these developments.

Lets hope it improves tomorrow ;)

So this will benefit most uni's in SA i am assuming? I remember at the beginning of the year at Rhodes, the chairman announced that later in the year we (at the uni) can expect a great increase in speeds and capacity. Is this what he was talking about asides from obviously Seacom?

UFS is getting a 700Mbps connection that's being connected at the end of next month. Other uni's are getting similar connections.

Yeah, would be really interested to know when the increased bandwidth will come into effect at UCT? Also, what speed connections do the institutions have to TENET? If TENET gets 10Gbps more bandwidth, that's not particularly useful if the <institution-name> - TENET connection is already saturated.

Very interesting looking at a traceroute from the US to Tenet, it actually looks like they are using only layer 2 all the way from JHB to London. I can't tell whether this went over Seacom or not, so who knows, its still interesting though.

I'm going to love my staff account very soon ;)
My 4Mbit at home is faster than the connection I get at the lab :p

So when can UCT have some more bandwidth? its painfull at the best of times.

Yeah, I could probably go to Wynberg Home Affairs and get a new ID (if I wanted to) before some big .pdf loads at UCT . The only time that I have seen it speed along is between 7 and 8am :p

this sucks, just after I leave uni then they gonna get fast, cheap bandwidth :( I even put in an extra year in anticipation of this :p

Stellenbosch network rocked.Sure there is going to be even more now on if people can dowload things cheaply. It was pretty cheap when i was there
