What!? telkom already said that they dropped their prices 90% for you.
Now, since obfuscation is dips**t telkom's strong point, you must try to understand, that you must think about buying gigs...not uncapped...
They gave us a few crumbs...oops...I mean gigs extra...c'mon that should placate you...works out to a massive 90% drop...that is if you will just please keep thinking of internet access as per gig...

Unfortunately a lot of ISPs still have contracts with Telkom's SAFE/SAT-3 cable which will only run out in the next 12 to 18 months. Only after those contracts have expired will ISP's sign up for cheaper wholesale bandwidth on the SEACOM cable which should lead to reduced prices for consumers.

The ISPs who planned ahead for this event and drop prices deserve to reap the rewards. Those who were dumb enough to throw all their eggs in the Telkom basket must face the consequences.

What Mr Hay says is true, if Telkom had a viable opposition. Until Neotel gets real coverage with a reliable connection, Telkom will rip the public's guts out for just as long as it can and many other piggies will busily have their snouts deep in the trough.

And there margins are already under pressure... or so they say.
One thing I am concerned about is the cost of the "last mile" to my front door...
this is my big concern as well.
Seacom may bring cheaper bandwidth to SA, but that is only to the landing station. How do they intend to deliver it cheaper to my little office?

I think I read on some of the other articles that the guys signed 5 year or longer contracts so they probably did not know about SEACOM then.
I thought that Telkom had recently upgraded their cable to 320 gb/s recently? There is plenty of bandwidth - it was just too expensive.

The problem is that ufortunately before seacom was around those isp's had no choice but to sign telkoms long contracts (it is irrelevant whether they knew about Seacom at that stage or not). Had they not then where else would they get bandwidth from and would likely not exist today due to them no longer being able to provide a service.
That is the main reason why Seacom is such a rave... there will now be a second option for these service providers and they will no longer have to bow to the monopolistic tradings of Telkom or "go under."
Poor Telkom...

After the recent article by McLeod it might happen that Telkom will go the SAA route and ask for frequent bail-outs.
Will have to wait and see... nice to see they're between a rock and a hard place
