Hey lads!

Just some very interesting news that i heard just moments ago. I know we all get the usual "i asked a techie who was at my house bla bla bla" to try squeeze what ever info possible. My 4mbit DSL had been dropping alot and techie just finished replacing a board not even 15min ago. As he finished up and checked my sync he said and i quote "your line will easily handle the 8mbit upgrade thats coming". I asked him about it and he said that testing went well and that people who can support 8mbit will be bumped up to it.

I asked him when this upgrade would happen and he said it should commence towards the end of October. This is inline with what Gary posted not so long ago on the forums. As we al know not all that info can be legit as they are just the grunts of Telkom. Not so long ago Telkom said that 8mbit was a 9 to 12 months away, this was posted on the news section as well.

So lets just wait and see.
 
What i like about it is that it "sounds" like all 4mbit guys will be bumped up to these speeds so it wont be a seperate more expensive service. I think Gary has more beans to spill ;)
 
All these posts about oh no, you'll reach your cap faster, it's all nonsense, you're not going to reach your cap faster, your browsing will be faster.

I used to use about 6Gb a day on local, but now I'm back on a 1Gb cap, and I use about 30Mb a day, so 4Mbit line doesnt make me use more cap, I just spend a lot less time waiting for downloads and I get my surfing over and done with at a much faster speed.

The upcoming 8mbit is going to make downloading much nicer, and skype plus gaming should improve :D
 
Frankly I see no difference between 4 and 8 Meg DSL when the caps are so pathetic. It just means I wait a few less minutes for the same data limit.
 
Guys, we're not going to get uncapped anytime soon, lets just enjoy the higher speeds.
I'm sure for our local p2p sites this is going to be a welcome upgrade, lets just hope the upload will be increased to 2mbit

You use 30mb a day why on earth will 8 meg be better than 4 meg line for you? Web pages do not need 800kbs to load, they do not even need the 400kbs a 4 meg line offer so in fact 8 meg will not be better for browsing at all.

So gary called this one but i am wondering gary what is your take on seacom since you said they would change everything in this country :D
 
the rumour is... that caps will also go up. But don't quote me on that part ;)

It's all very hush hush! :p
