Kids search for websites, sex and porn

Methodology

Between February 2008 and July 2009, Symantec tracked a total of 3.5 million searches that were submitted by users of their OnlineFamily.Norton service. The list of search terms was ranked from those submitted most frequently to those submitted the least. In order to be included in the list of kids’ top search terms, a search term had to have been submitted at least 50 times by registered users of OnlineFamily.Norton.

Can't find age - reason I'm bringing it up is because it could include boys between the age of 14-18 :p

Depends on how you look at it - hope it doesn't mean kids younger than 12 - that'd be even more shocking.

That old adage 'Like father like son' rings very true here. The Internet provides many surfers with the anonymity and access which many desire to freely explore and view pornography and/or sex. The jury is still out on whether this a good thing.

What I find strange is that most of the search terms are actually websites - Like Pyro said: Googling for Google. The can basically only put a .com behind the search term and they have the site. Then again they can't spell, so I guess Google does help ;)

maybe its accidental searches, like typing youtube in the address bar and pressing enter, instead of youtube.com brings up a google search page instead of the actual site - with my browser config anyways.

I'll hazard a guess that there are more adults than children who do this. "Stumbling" through the internet like this is amazingly common...
I occasionally watch people surf to get data for website improvements and what people do to get what they want is sometimes staggering...

screw them searching for sex, why the hell do they search for miley she has these extended gums that reminds me of the alien from aliens, just as she is about to stick his tongue into your skull

Lol at numbers 2 and 7.... who googles "Google" or "Yahoo" ???

It's quite shocking to see what people google these days.

Remember that people often type website names into google rather than addressess... its pretty quick actually, like on my browser it starts the cursor in the google tool bar rather than the adress bar

Googling for google? Kids these days...

I think this is becoming more common nowadays. I am by no means a kid and use my the address bar in Firefox to search for most sites... I hardly ever bother with .com or .co.za or the like any more. I put in the name of the site and let Google (my default search engine) find the rest of the name for me. The reason for this is that I can't be "bothered" remembering if it is a .net, .com etc etc.

It also means not having to remember if there is a www or not and being concerned with the exact name - are there dashes etc.

EDIT : As the poster above I used to use the Google toolbar but now even that is obsolete with the address bar performing searches in Firefox.

Dumb question, maybe ... why are kids searching Google? :erm:

Kids who are hitting puperty and having their reproductive biological clocks switched on are searching for sex?!?!!? Zomg! The worlds ganna end. Say it aint so.
