iBurst gives away 500MB in prepaid trial

What are the terms of the trial?

The 500mb is the reward for participating, so not exactly a "give away", but also not to be sniffed at.

Now, where can I find an "old" modem?

from 50MB to 2 Gigabytes, with a price per megabyte ranging from R1 to 25 cents depending on the bundle.

This is from R1024 to R256 per GB.

3G is in the same price range.

Why take iBurst? Most 3G cellphones can anyway be used as modems.

Not a good offering.

Seems as if Neotel will get a lot of business should they get their act together! The main differentiator between iBurst and Neotel at present is reported average data speeds (against theoretical max speeds).

Just connected my old modem. However no registration window popped up. When phoning their support number 0877 20 20 20 I was told that it will only start in September. Trying to explain to the operator what is advertised on their website but to na avail

I suggest everyone on iburst now leaves. Simply solution.

Maybe their towers arent coping ...so now all the people that use the internet (video, downloads , games etc ) leaves , which will leave the low end uninformed Email only users so that their towers can cope.
:P
They are clearly chasing the tech savvy guys away cause they know they cant abuse them cause they know better and they are now focussing on the PC uninformed to prey on.

Agreed

Can we rerun the MyBB survey?

I want to change my Mampara of the year vote from ICASA to iBurst.

Jannie van Zyl is the best

Yep - since he became CEO of iBurst they certainly have moved the right direction to what it's users want.

I am behind you Jannie, move iburst forward with better Internet for South Africa. who would say no to your prices?

seriously iburst, have fun running the company into the ground :p

All I have to say is I lol'd, I lol'd and lol'd some more.

Now how can I connect with the desktop modem with a username or password. It's easier said than done.

Let's hope this isn't the only offering iBurst is planning. Larger caps or faster throttled speed would be welcome. Perhaps also cheaper boosters.

A very interesting angle on this.
So R250 to R 1000 per GIG for the PC uninformed.

+1000

He says the Prepaid offer forms part of iBurst's drive to get more South Africans exposed to the benefits of broadband internet. The company will be offering brand new internet users a Prepaid Starter Kit which includes a USB modem, an installation disk, 30MB of data, a user name and an email address all for under R1000. The Prepaid offering will be made available commercially from September 2009.

The initial cost of the modem is not actually that bad. I think that it is a positive thing that they are introducing prepaid. Unfortunately the R500 for 2 gigs (as I understand it) is R111 more than I pay for 2 gigs with Vodacom on prepaid. Vodacom have the better coverage and where I use it the most I usually get 1 mb/s - 2 mb/s...

I am not going to move across.
