Is iBurst down in Lenasia / Soweto?

Hi.

Is anyone able to connect to iBurst in the Lenasia or Soweto area?

I was connected this morning, but it was really PAINSTAKINGLY slow. So I did the only thing I could - pull the power cable from the modem, wait a few minutes, and stick it back in again.

Since then, I haven't been able to connect. I'm offline for close to 2 hours now.

I believe I usually connect to one of the following towers:
- Jabulani (Soweto)
- Lenasia
- Lenasia North

ibursts speeds are fine.. just atm the stability is utter crap.. and also well the price has been retarted since the start

Today I am unable to connect to iBurst, AGAIN!

This is so frikken frustrating!

Could the iBurst rep not help out here?!

Hi ToxicWazte

According to our network status page we have nothing down.

Please send me your address details so that we can try isolate which tower you are pulling off for further inspection.

Thanks

Turns out the iBurst base stations in my area are not to blame, but rather my router, as I am able to connect via a PPPOE connection when the iBurst modem is plugged directly into my PC's ethernet port.

However, I am still having issues connecting through my router. The thing that has me foncused is that it works sometimes, and at other times it doesn't.

Thanks to Shaun Green, the iBurst rep, for assisting me telephonically.

Shaun - I will send you those screen shots shortly.

UPDATE: After further investigation and testing, turns out that my problems are (most probably) signal issues, and has nothing to do with my router.

Shaun has organised a techie to come out to my place tomorrow and help sort out these issues and re-align the antenna.

However, I am still skeptical. I sometimes get pretty decent speeds - nothing to indicate that it is a signal issue. My connection will be sailing smoothly, and then all of a sudden it just dies.

UPDATE: OK so the iBurst technician came to my office, to help sort out my issues. I am pleased to say that I am now getting much better speed, but MOST importantly I am getting a stable connection, that doesn't drop consistently (as before).

However, my connection only remained stable and consistent AFTER he upgraded the firmware on my modem (the old grey desktop ethernet modem). Even though he tested the signal and pointed it in the right direction, the connection still wasn't stable, although download speeds were good when the connection was getting dropped. I am very certain that it was the modem firmware upgrade that sorted out my issues and not the re-aligning of the antenna. I have been messing around with antenna re-alignment and utTracestar on my own for almost a week before the technician came out, and no matter what I did, I couldn't get a stable connection, even when pointing it in the exact same direction that the technician eventually recommended.

The technician said something about the latest system upgrades (iBoss perhaps?) sometimes causing havoc with the modems, and firmware upgrades almost always sorted the issues out.

Shaun - can you confirm if the latest system upgrades could have had an affect on the modems (or at least some of them?), which a firmware upgrade would sort out? Or do you think it is just co-incidence? Also - does iBurst do "over the air" modem upgrades?

UPDATE: Last night I had more issues with iBurst, on my home account. I struggled to connect. I have one of those orange desktop ethernet modems, connected to a Netgear router.

I had to play around with my router and modem, powering them down then up again, for almost an hour, before I eventually got a connection. This was really frustrating. However, once it was up, it remained stable.

I have a strong feeling that the latest iBurst system upgrades are to blame for my connectivity issues.

I have had stable connections both at home and at the office until about 3 weeks ago. The speed I was getting wasn't great, but the service was usable, stable. Since 3 weeks ago, everything just went wonky.
