World's first commercial LTE call made

Will love to see this work, hope Vodacom will incorporate it soon. We have to stay in the forefront of mobile comm.

Vodacom has trouble providing decent HSDPA, how in heavens name are they going to provide 100Mbps, or will it again just be advertised speeds.

Thus far none of the national service providers have committed themselves to rolling out LTE technology.

But previously...

Speaking at Cell C’s recent results presentation the company’s CEO, Jeffrey Hedberg, said that while they have a 3G ready core network, ‘3G is hype and we won’t fall prey to hype’.

...

Cell C Chief Financial Officer Fabrizio Mambrini added that 3G is becoming an obsolete technology with overseas operators already talking about 4G.

I'm so glad I moved to Vodacom.

I must say I'm disappointed! I went straight to this article after seeing the word 'commercial' and discovered it's just one of dozens of calls that vendors have already demo'd on LTE! The article says it was done in a lab and that commercial launches are some time off (so what's new ...?)

Agree with the other's - let's fix the speeds on HSPA now before trying fancy new speeds!

Yes....but when Vodacom wants to go LTE...i would love to know how Telkom is going to meet Vodacom's demands? There is already how many outstanding backhaul links on backorder with Telkom.
