Neotel WiMAX pricing revealed

R29 x 35 = +/- R1000 + Telkom ADSL 4Mbps = less than 2k versus R5k installation + R4500 per month for "uncapped"

Unless there is some contention ratio (or you really really really need faster upload speed) I would say that Neotel is ripping us off. Surely the upload speed can't be the only defining feature?

And 5k for a wireless install? W... T... F...?

Yup, nothing to see here, move along to the Afrihost site.

the 35 GB fair usage policy may be a concern to certain high-usage clients.

How can that be called uncapped?

True uncapped = No crappy thresholds, no "fair use " policy, no nothing. Arrgghh this article irks me.

All Neotel ever seem to aim at are businesses. Even then, R4500 per month for 'uncapped' with a 35GB fair usage policy is pathetic. Time to get the ASA involved for false advertising.

Agreed with timgaul, small businesses would be better off paying R29/gig with Afrihost.

I would tend to agree, they shouldn't be allowed to advertise "uncapped" if there are restrictions. Rather call it high usage, or something.

I mean, if you were so overly concerned about latency and upload speeds you wouldn't be relying on a wireless solution, anyway.

I'm sure you meant "shouldn't"..

Can't we sue them for false advertising or something?

QFT

This is the worst package I've seen in a long time..

I'd rather go with 4 meg adsl with Axxess uncapped. You can pull about 800 gigs a month with that and pay LESS than what Neotel is asking for a WiMax solution..

Not really helpful for businesses though seeing that it's only unthrottled after hours.

Advertising uncapped and then saying its limited to 35 gigs (fair usage) is like selling a car with 'unlimited free petrol' but allowing only 35 litres per month (fair usage)

Although I agree that it is to expensive for effectively a 35GB cap, you guys are missing the point of the 2Mbps down and uplink. In certain applications this would be better than a 4Mbps ADSL Line with a 512k uplink.

So I think there is a market for this and price is also not necessarily the issue, however the 35GB per month definitely is.

Yup. Think inter-branch VPN and other hosted services. Suddenly rather than a 512k VPN between your branches it's now 2Mbps. Hosting a website or some other application? Suddenly access to it is (potentially) 4 times faster when compared to ADSL.

We pay R3000 a month for Openweb uncapped, which is a true uncapped solution with dedicated IP, and we rake 100's GB a month ... Neotel Is a Loser (We shall now pronounce them NIAL from now own ... TIAL, change your name to NIAL :P )

YANF (Yet Another Neotel Fail).

Our IS business DSL lines do about 100GB a month each, with standard usage.

R4,500 a month for 2Mbps... they have lost the plot...

The issue for me is the whole "Neotel is coming to save your life" bullcrap that was perpetuated by them and the media for 2 years.

Then all that happened was they came up with a bunch of garbage wireless solutions, barely even undercut Telkom (actually in many instances they are way more expensive), and watching them try to run their IP network is like watching a bunch of retards trying to.. well you get the drift.

This is just more garbage in the growing pile that is Neotel's bouquet.

Seriously, they could have made the service 8Mbps, make it properly uncapped (not 35GB "fair use" nonsense), and made it R1000/m. Then I might be remotely impressed.

Pathetic.
