Hey Friends,

We require a select group of ADSL users whom have experience with torrent downloads to test a new service called DownStorm.

Basically, this service allows folks to anonymously download their torrents onto a super fast network of international servers, and then download them at your own leisure from your storage space.

This will bypass any shaping that your ISP provides as well as allows you anonymity.

You must have international bandwidth to use this service.

If you would like to apply, kindly email: [email protected] with the following information:

Name and Surname:
Email Address:
Contact Number:
How often do you use torrents?

I look forward to seeing you on DownStorm!

Kind regards
MrBEEP

So basically like a TorrentFlux kinda thing?

Do we have to use our own bandwidth or will bandwidth be provided?

I am interested. Will email now.

Hey fxit_man

You will need to use your own bandwidth. We do have plans however to provide combo packages in the future.

The nice thing with this service though is that the shaping is totally eliminated, because you download HTTP directly onto your PC.

Kind regards
MrBEEP

Indeed.

This is exactly like a TorrentFlux type of service.

Buy dedicated server/VPS overseas for cheap (few dollars per month), install torrentflux on the server, use it to queue up your torrents, and then download the files via HTTP off of the VSP server.

I assume your pricing structure would have to be similar to that of overseas servers, otherwise why not just cut the middle man out?

ones i used range from R50-R120 p/m, very nice for those low seeded torrents as well as the upload bandwidth wasted now falls with the torrent downloading service and not you.

True that, but cheap VPS server have small hdd's and low bw transfer hence the cheap part.

If your doing medium torrents, then cheap vps's will do fine, but for the everage user, vps is overkill, and for power users its way to small.

Thats the point of downstorm, it caters for all users, with different packages to suit ones needs.

you work for OpenWeb right?

Im sure power users wont be willing to pay R449 for 20GB storage for 30 days?

KeyWeb provide a nice package for

7,90 € = R87.61

30 GB HDD| 512 MB RAM | 768 Flexi-RAM |
1500 GB Traffic monthly

Although i can't find their speed anywherer, it is of the german norm from what i hear. i.e. 8mbit and up!

And you can delete off of the server after a certain time, or just delete them when space runs out etc.

Wait, let me see if I have this right: I chose a torrent to be downloaded, the file is transferred onto a FAST network (saving me from uploading) then I can download it from the fast network in my time avoiding all shaping?

Sounds great, but how much does this cost?

i wonder how the following are going to be dealt with

1) legal issues, lets face it its going to be used as well to download games/music/movies/software
2) encryption and security
3) storage space
4) total allowed data transfer

1) Never! Only legal stuff. I do kinda wonder how that'll be dealt with.
2) There must be models for things like this.
3) I can see this being a problem if enough people sign up - perhaps a rolling delete window.
4) Should be pretty high if the overseas plan is big enough?

If I can make a suggestion. You are using a US based dedicated server! Trust me you are paying TOO MUCH and I bet you have a limit of 4-10TB of bandwidth. If you really want to make it affordable go get a server from OVH France!

You get 1TB of hdd and unlimited 1GBs network for next to nothing. And with the current good exchange rate its well worth it.

Serious. OVH France is the best service in the world for torrents and high bandwidth servers! Do some research and you will see.

I'm not trying to be rude or anything but I love playing around with international Dedicated servers and VPS.

I get a VPS with 10GB hdd and unmetered bandwidth for $8.50 per month and a choice of
Germany,UK,US,Netherlands,France and Canada.

And if you want a dedi the cheapest one is.

$99 per month. That is less than R1000 a month
And you get:
2GB DDR 2 RAM
Intel Core2Duo 2x 2.33+ GHz
2x 500 GB SATA2 - RAID 0/1
100mb/s unmetered bandwidth. You can easily do about 8TB a month cause there is no limit.

or add $10 and get it based in Germany

Right, signed up and logged in. Now what? :D

First impressions - the site is pretty but the advertising surely could fall away once you're signed in? Once I've created an account surely don't need to know about the "Torrent Systems" and packages?

OK, lemme test this thing :D

Good advice.

We will be leaving the package options somewhere, as you can, at any time, add more space / time to your account.
