Microsoft Chief unveils Windows smartphones

does this mean I can download the update for my diamond 2 somewhere now?

Coming weeks!? That's a bit sad given that they've had months to prepare for the big launch day. Oh well, patience is a virtue. Besides, all I need to do to cheer myself up is think of the poor iPhoneholics who've been waiting two months for a phone, and an inferior one at that :)

So as far as I understand it (I received the Windows Mobile mail with this link http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/devices/devices.mspx for the windows phones), these are all 3rd party phones (HTC, Samsung etc.) which will be running (or be able to) run Windows Mobile 6.5.
Not Microsoft manufactured phones per se.
Rather they seem to be linking the Microsoft Brand with these phones to create awareness - Thus "Windows Phones"

Correct @ Gecko. Microsoft has never been into hardware development and I doubt they'll start now. Winddows phones are phones that run on Windows 6.5 OS. This is similair to an Android (or Google) phone not being manufactured by Google, simply running the OS.

I've been using WM 6.5 on my Samsung Omnia for a couple of months now, and I must say that while it is an improvement over previous versions of Windows Mobile, the interface really doesn't compare to the likes of that of the iPhone, Android, or the PalmPre - especially with regard to ease of finger navigation (most of these phones are now touch screen).

are you using the plain windows mobile 6.5, or do you have either touch-flo or sense? Those interfaces make it as touch friendly as any device I've seen.
